We adults have 206 to 213 bones. We use them every day to sit, stand and walk. Our bones also protect our internal organs and give our body its shape.
Bones have a hard, dense outer layer that gives strength. The inside of the bones is porous (filled with tiny holes) through which blood flows.
What do you understand by means of bone health?
Bone health means that the bones are strong and do not break.
Bones are living tissue and are constantly renewed.
Bone minerals such as calcium, vitamin D, phosphorus, zinc and magnesium are needed to make bones strong.
This is because bone tissue is alive and it constantly changes throughout life, to ensure that it remains as healthy as possible.
Bone supply of blood and nerves is needed to keep bones healthy.
Exercise is also important to maintain good bone health.
When bones weaken, diseases like osteoporosis occur. Due to which bones become weak and brittle and the risk of bone fracture increases.
What are the key factors and tips to mentaince of bone health?
Bones not only need calcium for growth and health but also other factors and nutrients like vitamin D for normal bone functioning. Exercise is also very important for normal bone growth and adult bone health.
To keep bones healthy, it is very important that we take adequate amounts of vitamin D and calcium in our diet.
Drink alcohol in limited quantities. Do not smoke at all and keep exercising regularly. Minimize sugar intake.
To maintain the amount of calcium in your food, cook food in less amount of water for the shortest time possible.
Because we need adequate calcium to keep bones healthy and vitamin D is needed to help our body absorb calcium.
Tell us about the foods which help to keeps bones healthy.
To keep bones strong we should eat foods rich in calcium, magnesium, vitamin D and protein like -
Green leafy vegetables,
Dairy products like milk, cheese, curd,
Fish, eggs,
Nuts like peanuts, almonds, walnuts and soy milk.
Chia seeds and flax seeds,
Some citrus fruits like oranges, lemons and grapefruits.
Tofu and dried plums.
We have to keep in mind that the amount of calcium we take should be ideal. This also helps us protect bones and muscles.
