We live in the world of danger, injury or accident where several people have met their death on highway, at school, place of work and home due to inability to take necessary and immediate steps. When injury or accident occur, others that is fortunate to escape death experience scars, deformity, or permanent disability.
Accidents frequently occur at home, in public places, on the road, and at work. Anyone therefore face with the need to give first aid treatment when it occurs. The least one can do is to learn the simple fact of life-saving which help until skilled assistant is available. Now let’s look at what is "First Aid"

First Aid is the immediate care or treatment given to injure or casualty or sudden illness before the arrival of a doctor or transportation of the casualty to the hospital.
First Aid is given to a person who is found in an unpleasant situation such as sudden sickness, accident, injury whether at home, work, school or public places.

Importance of giving First Aid

• To prevent further injury or complication
• To save life
• To provide improvement to the condition
• To ensure the condition does not worsen
• To prepare for medical care or treament

First Aid box is a bag or kit containing different emergency medical equipment and medicine used to provide immediate medical treatment to a casualty.
First Aid box is identity by the appearance with either green, white or red background with a symbol of cross.

Five (5) items found in First Aid box and their uses

• TBC (Tincture of B-compound) or Iodine: this is use for fresh wound and bruises
• Sterile gauze or cotton wool: This is for dressing a sore and prevents the wound from sticking
• Antiseptic liquid such as savlon, Dettol, spirit: are used to irrigate open wounds
• Cravat bandage: is used to immobilize dislocations and support injuries
• Pairs of Scissors: use for cutting materials.
