What do you know about kidney disease?

The kidney, in the first place, is a pair of organs in the human body that look like beans. This organ helps in cleaning the blood by removing all waste substances. It also helps in removing excess water and minerals in our blood in the form of urine. This organ is found in the human body a little bit below the ribs.

Kidney disease, therefore, is an abnormal condition that makes the kidney unable to clean the blood or filter excess water in the human blood as expected. Some of the causes of kidney disease are:

  • Excessive drinking of alcohol.
  • Drugs: Long time taken on some drugs like ibuprofen.
  • Diabetes and High blood pressure (Type 1) have the tendency to cause kidney disease.
  • Smoking of cigarettes: Smoking increases blood pressure. It can also damage blood vessels and the heart, which will, in turn, affect the flow of blood to the kidney.

Have you or someone you know ever experienced kidney-related issues?

I know someone who experienced kidney disease and eventually died as a result. At the cause of his ailment, he always finds it difficult to urinate to the point that he began having dialysis every week until his demise. At some point, his feet and ankles swell up, and later, he has a swollen stomach. He always complains of being tired and not having an appetite for food. These are the few experiences I can remember.

How can we prevent and manage kidney disease?

Kidney disease can be prevented and managed through the following ways:

  • Certain drugs must not be taken regularly, such as ibuprofen and aspirin to avoid the risk of kidney disease or when you have kidney disease. In fact, it is advisable to contact your doctor before taking any drugs.
  • Sicknesses like diabetes and High blood pressure must not be taken for granted. Proper medication should be taken through drugs and diet to reduce the load on the kidney.
  • Dialysis: When someone has kidney disease or if his or her kidneys don’t work well, a machine with a mechanical filter can be used to cleanse his/her blood.
  • Kidney transplant: This is mostly done when the kidney disease is advanced and when the affected person does not have other medical conditions.

Conclusion
Health is wealth. I hope this article will help us to care for our health as expected. I, therefore invite @cekbram, @avalanch, @saintprisca and @besticofinder to also participate in the contest.
