Today I am so happy to join in the "Healthy Liver" contest by @suboohi on the Healthy Steem Community. Liver is very important, as without it our body wouldn’t function the way it is, it detoxifies harmful substances; it helps digest food and store nutrients. And this contest is a great opportunity to spread the word about the importance liver health and try to find simple ways to make sure it is functioning as best as it can. It is with excitement that I share insights, tips and more importantly the importance of liver care as a part of a balanced, healthy lifestyle.

A healthy liver is simply a liver that acts normally, with no evidence of disease or impairment. In addition to filtering the toxins of the blood, producing the bile for digestion, storing the valuable nutrients, it regulates the metabolism. A healthy liver keeps enzymes in check, efficiently processes fats and proteins as if on a diet, and backs up the body’s immune system. By keeping our liver healthy, our energy is better, our skin better, and our well being better.
By following these practices, we can keep our liver healthy:

🔹Eating Nutritious Foods: Eat whole grains and lean proteins (including fruits and vegetables for their essential nutrients and antioxidants that can help support liver function) to make up some of the loss.
🔹Drinking Plenty of Water: Hydrating also helps the liver flush out toxins and keep it working as well as possible.
🔹Limiting Alcohol and Processed Foods: Over eating processed foods and too much alcohol, can put stress on the liver causing fatty liver and inflammation.
🔹Exercising Regularly: Physical activity helps us maintain a healthy weight, which in turn helps to reduce liver workload and prevent fat build up.
🔹Using Medications Cautiously: Preventing liver strain and keeping it functioning optimally is being aware of what your body is taking in (whether the medication or lack thereof) and limiting unnecessary supplements.
🔹Get Regular Check-Ups: I also believe in getting regular health checkups to clear the liver and to catch issues early.
By adopting these habits we can be providing our livers with the ability to be strong and healthy and ultimately add to our wellness and energy.

Liver dysfunction is one serious health problem, that is being caused by jaundice. If the bilirubin, a yellow pigment made of red blood breakdown, is not completely protected or removed by the liver, it will build up. Bilirubin builds up in the bloodstream when it becomes yellow to the skin, eyes and mucous membranes. Hepatitis, cirrhosis or further severe liver disease can cause jaundice and often indicates the liver is under very severe stress and damage. It’s a sign to you that something is really wrong with the liver and you better attend to it immediately.
