• What is stress eating?
Stress Eating |
---|
The habit Stress Eating is when we eat not to satisfy the emptiness of our stomach, but to relieve our emotional pressure, stress or anxiety. We aren’t physically hungry, we’re looking for comfort for our minds. This is commoner in Bangladesh especially in women. When under stress from studies, work, or family pressure many women will begin eating fast food, fried foods, or chocolate because it provides temporary relief. However, this is just a short term solution which can cause big problems later on
• Negative effects of stress eating?
In the long run, stress eating has many harmful effects on both the body and the mind. It causes weight gain first, which is a problem. Due to the presence of unhealthy food very common in Bangladesh, it may increase the possibility of the health problems like diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. Another reason of digestive problems like acidity or gastric problems is eating too much oily and fatty foods.
The biggest effect is on people's mental health. Stress eating provides temporary comfort, but it comes back with a feeling of guilt. "Why did I eat so much for no reason?" we may think. The more stress it increases, and enters a vicious cycle. Gradually, people who are stressed eat more often lose control over emotions. Gaining weight or hearing negative comments about your body for women can badly hurt their self confidence.

Stress Management |

I haven’t stress eaten because if it gives us a temporary peace, it will ultimately be harmful for us. I prefer to do things that I feel happy and calm when I am under a lot of stress. I love to read books. If I could sit down with a good novel or a poem I feel like I was lost in another world. The books of Rabindranath Tagore and Jibanananda Das make me especially reverent.

Walking on the roof helps me a lot too. When I look up at the sky, and the beautiful trees around me, my stress gets feel a little smaller. I write my thoughts in a diary sometimes. Writing truly does relieve my heart. For me listening to music relieves stress. When I listen to soft sweet music, it feels like all the worries in my mind start flying out.
When I feel really bad I talk to my mother. She’s the only one who understands me lots. Talking to her for a bit doesn’t fix everything, but it makes it better. I also sometimes do small creative tasks for myself, such as cooking, drawing, painting, making crafts with clay and tidy up the house. These are things that help take some of the mental pressure off.
To reduce stress, we should cultivate certain habits of doing things which are good for the body and the mind. If we do something else instead of stress eating, life can get a lot easier and a lot more beautiful.

We eat all these foods for pleasure and entertainment but they are harmful for us. So when blackberries are sprouting on the side of the road, we eat these foods without realizing that they are very harmful to our beauty, of course we will refrain from them.
