My Morning and Afternoon Routine
My day began with the quiet routine of waking up early as usual , then stretching, and gathering my thoughts for the day ahead. After a quick morning devotion, I tidied up my house and surroundings, enjoyed a nutritious breakfast, and set off for work.
Arriving at the hospital, I shared pleasantries with my colleagues then went straight to the Diabetic Clinic, where the focus in health presentation was on “The Role of Protein in the Management of Diabetes.” By my Superior. She spoke with patients on this essential topic, aimed to offer practical guidance on how protein intake affects blood sugar levels and overall health for individuals with diabetes.

At the clinic, she presented the importance of protein, particularly emphasizing its role in stabilizing blood sugar levels, preserving muscle mass, and improving satiety, which can help in management of weight which is a vital aspect for diabetic patients. The session became more interactive as patients began asking questions, eager to learn how much protein was appropriate for them. Many were curious about the types of proteins they could incorporate into their diets without compromising their blood sugar control which I clarified that lean proteins like fish, chicken, and legumes are generally excellent choices, and reminded them to monitor portion sizes to avoid excess intake. Some patients also expressed concerns about their kidney health, an essential factor in diabetes management, which led to discuss balancing protein with other nutrients to maintain kidney function. Which was handled by me. By the end of the presentation, We could sense their newfound understanding and motivation to make informed dietary choices.

Afterward, I moved to the ward with my junior colleagues and students on Industrial Training to review our patients, conducting assessments to check on their progress and ensured they were following their dietary plans effectively. I was pleased to find that a few patients had made enough progress to be discharged. Handing them their discharge notes and counseling them on continuing their nutritional plan at home was fulfilling, as they were one step closer to better health. This was really fulfilling.

Thereafter I attended to several consults, offering dietary advice and formulating individualized meal plans for new patients. Throughout the day, I meticulously recorded my observations, progress notes, and any necessary adjustments to each patient's care plan.
Finally, at 4 pm, I closed from duty, satisfied with the day’s impact. It was rewarding to guide patients in diabetes management, and I left work with a sense of accomplishment, ready to recharge for another day of making a difference in their lives.
