The Diary Game | 13th of April, 2024 | What I Did on the New Year's Day.

It was 13th of April.

This was the first New Year that I spent away from home. Early morning, I started my day by calling my mom. Then, I began my usual routine. Since it was our holiday, we slept a little longer, so the morning hours were spent quickly. The environment around me is so calm and quiet. There were no university students and the noise of passing vehicles was absent.

I felt lonely without these familiar noises around me. It is unbelievable how fast we adapt to things, we don't consider when we have it. After having our breakfast, I cleaned the house. Then, I made some milk toffees. It was the first time I attempted making sweets for the new year alone, without my mom's help. Somehow, I managed it and there were many things that I learnt in the process of making. The recipe seemed easy but I felt getting the right consistency is somewhat challenging. However, I was able to make something for the new year's table.

Once it was completed, I made lunch for us. Today's menu was fried rice with spicy Sri Lankan-style chicken curry. It was delicious and it tasted even better with fresh passion fruit juice.

Additionally, I prepared food for the stray dogs. Feeding the dogs brought me greater happiness this new year. I made special rice adding chicken. When students are around, they feed these dogs regularly. Since there is nobody here now, I thought that we should take care of these animals.

We spent our evening on the rooftop, enjoying the cold breeze and the misty mountains that surrounded us. It was a pleasant evening spent with our little one. As the night approached, It was time to prepare milk rice to welcome the new year. I missed my parents a lot this New Year. With so much love, I served all the sweets and food on our little New Year table, just as my mom used to do for us.

We made sure not to light crackers this New Year because we could see how much animals suffer during this time of the year. This year the auspicious time for the dawn of the New Year was at 9.05 pm. We welcomed the New Year without causing harm to anyone around us.
