BIOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION

Firstly, I would love to describe lions in biological terms. Lions are animals and belong to the kingdom of ANIMALIA, the phylum in which Lion is associated with is the phylum CHORDATA. Chordates are vertebrates with spinal cord. The class lion belongs, the class MAMMALIA as we all know mammals are animals that give birth to their young ones alive. The order which Lion belongs to is the order CARNIVORA, lions are carnivorous mammals which means they are mammals who eat flesh. Lions belong to the family FELIDAE that is the cat family, and the cat belongs to the genus PANTHERA which is big cats, and finally, the species which is LEO which means lion.

So in order of taxonomy we have;

  • Kingdom- ANIMALIA
  • Phylum - CHORDATA
  • Class- MAMMALIA
  • Order- CARNIVORA
  • Family - FELIDAE
  • Genus - PANTHERA
  • Species - LEO

Lions are one of the most commonly known wild animals in Africa, which are mostly found in thick forests and in the zoo where they are kept for the recreational and educational purposes. A young Lion is called CUB and it is given birth to alive.

Lions are most times called the king of the animal kingdom because they are not only domineering but love to protect their territories. They feed on smaller animals and fleshes hence their carnivorous nature.

ATTRIBUTES

Lions are unique because they have the ability to communicate with each other, one of their methods of communication is roaring. Roaring is the sound made by Lion, a baby lion which is a cub cannot roar as loud as an adult Lion but it gets better as it is growing. Lions are nocturnal which means they function better at night.

Lions are very sensitive to smells and the whiskers on their face aids sensitivity. Lions have a very long wagging tail for holding a prey down and it can also be used to show excitement and lion wags its tail with another lion as a form of greeting. Lions have very large round eyes that shine even in the night which is positioned on the head. Lions also have very sensitive ears that could be used to hear from afar.

Lions are very fast runners and can possibly cover up to 40 Miles per hour especially if it's chasing a prey like Zebras which are also fast runners. They are usually so agile which makes running very easy for them.

HISTORY

So a brief history of Lions: The first Lions are thought to have evolved around 2.5 million years ago in Africa. These early Lions were much smaller than modern Lions and they lived in the forest and woodlands of Africa. Around One million years ago, lions started to adapt to living on the savannahs of Africa.

As they evolved, they grew larger and developed longer legs and a longer tail, which helped them run faster and hunt more effectively. Around 10,000 years ago, lions started to spread out of Africa and into other parts of the world; such as, Europe and Asia .

CONCLUSION

Finally, Lions are very large animals of the cats family, They are the largest animals in the cat family, they are mostly found in Africa and Southern Asia. Lions have gold- coloured fur and the males have long hair around it neck called MANE. I feel Lions are great animals and only greatness and power is attributed to it, because a strong man can also be described as a Lion while a powerful and strong woman is most times termed a Lioness. They are mostly used to describe people of valour because of the braveness portrayed by Lions.

That is all from me and I hope you had a wonderful read. Kudos to @patjewell for the brain behind this contest. I indulge @goodybest, @zekanem and @adachukwu to comment on my post and participate in this contest. Stay blessed.

Your content about this dangerous feline is excellent. Oh, God, I fear it very much. I have seen it in circuses, but from afar, hahaha, until they catch their prey, they don't stop chasing it, they are very persevering. Blessings. Good luck in the contest.
