What happened?

So I want to share a frustrating experience I had at my Place of Primary Assignment(PPA) So I was posted to a Community Secondary School by NYSC (National Youth Service Corps). On getting to the School, the Vice Principal in charge of Corpers assigned me to teach SS3 Civic Education even though I studied Microbiology but I didn't have a problem with that because I was good at the Course while I was in Secondary school.

So she is my head Teacher and typically gives me note to Copy and teach the Students. She usually gives me note on Friday and marks it on Monday. I didn't receive notes for two consecutive weeks from her because last week Friday was midterm break and the other Friday she was absent. Yesterday November 4th, was our Biometrics and we're expected to bring a Clearance form from our Place of Primary Assignment stating that we were on ground throughout the month.

On getting to School yesterday, she said that she must see my note before giving me Clearance form. I explained to her that I gave the note to a Student to copy and circulate it to her classmates and the Student said she didn't come to School with it. The situation escalated and she shouted at me in Front of my student and asked the both of us to get out from her side. She went as far as insulting me in her dialect.

This was the woman I was handling the Class she suppose to be teaching. Other Corpers usually share the Classes and Workload with their headteacher but I was teaching the whole SS3 without complaining and the fault was from her because she wasn't in School. I had to wait for the Student to go home and get my note and I showed her before she gave me the Clearance form. I didn't blame her though, I blame the NYSC posting system that puts Corp Members in Unfavourable situations, making us vulnerable to disrespect.

What you have learned from it?

I learnt that being a good girl and staying calm in difficult situation can be mistaken for weakness.

Secondly I learnt that standing up for oneself in difficult situation is important.

I have resolved that I will respond accordingly anytime she disrespects me. After all, I'm doing the School favour without pay. Thanks for reading through my post, I invite @bessie2023, @vudeme and @chommygift to participate in this contest.

Hi @rossnenye,

As you mentioned, it's really important to stand up for ourselves, because later we might regret the moment we missed. I wish you luck in the contest!
