Brief history of the hammer

The origin of a hammer can be traced back to the Stone Age. The Stone Age was an era which existed long ago and which humans used stones to make tools. The hammer was among one of man's earliest tools, I was told that the first set of hammers didn't have a handle. After that, the hammers then got handles, the hammer kept on getting modified until what it looks like now. The first sets of irons were made from bronze, then from iron, and then to the steel hammer which kept on evolving.

Structure of a hammer

A hammer is made up of a tightly fitted handle which is either made from wood which is common, metal coated with rubber, fiberglass and a quality head for striking. The handle enables the user to be able to have a firm grip on it to be able to raise it high enough to gather force which when brought down will enable the head to hit on the object and yield a positive result.

Types of hammers and their uses

There are various types of hammers used to accomplish different tasks. Some types of hammers are:

Ball peen hammer

This type of hammer has two heads, one flat and the other round, the round part is also called the peen. The flat head is usually used for striking punches and chisels while the round head could be used for shaping of metals through striking it.

Brick hammer

This is a type has only one flat head for striking and a chisel-like blade. It is used for cutting bricks and chip off edges of stone without using a separate chisel.

The claw hammer

This is the most common type of hammer. It is used for carpentry. It has a flat head and a pair of V-shaped curved downward is commonly used for removing nails from woods.

Sledgehammer

This type of hammer has a flat and large metal head with a long handle. The combination of the large metal head and the long handle enables the hammer to gain enough momentum when raised to have a large impact on the object acted out unlike other types other hammers. The sledgehammer is used for breaking concrete and hard materials, demolishing structures and walls, driving stakes into the ground etc. Due to the weight of this hammer, the user uses his two hands to lift the hammer.

Club hammer

A club hammer is a hammer which is smaller than a sledgehammer. It is lighter than a sledgehammer, it's harden is shortened, and it can be lifted with one hand. It can be used to apply force on a steel chisel to cut metals or stone, it can also be used to drive masonry nails into the wall and for demolition of light buildings.

Cross pein hammer

This hammer has a blade which is perpendicular to the handle. A cross pein hammer called be used in blacksmithing, carpentry, metal work, and stone work. The cross pein could be flat, rounded, or sharp. The main function of the cross pein hammer is to shape metal during forging or riveting.

Tack hammer

The tack hammer is a hammer of lightweight that has two faces, one of which is magnetized to help place tacks. This is used for security soft padded fabrics, to frames of furniture using small nails or tacks

Traditional significance

The hammer has a long cultural significance and prehistory. The hammer is used to play the gongs during the time where the cultural masquerade do danced, it was also used for ancient blacksmithing, it is one of the tools for carpentry.

A hammer is a very significant tool both in time past and now. The hammer still retains most of it past structure but have only become modified. For instance, the handles are now when shape to avoid hurting the user during use, antivibration hammer has been made to avoid much vibration on the user.
The hammer is quiet as easy tool to use but have to be used with caution, the right hammers need to be used on the right tasks to get effective results.

I would like to invite @dar22, @usoro01 and @adunni to participate in this contest.

One of the most creative equipment is the hammer used in the world of art. As a kid, I used to joke with the word 'monday-monday Hammer's after being taught in junior secondary school and being opportune to see and feel it.

A knowledge I draw from the hammer is that in life, the right thing at the wrong place is useless.
