It is Women’s Day!

Greetings the beautiful ladies and gentlemen in Steem for Ladies community, another celebration of Women's day is here and the theme is "Invest in women: Accelerate progress". I am glad to participate in this year's celebration of Women's Day coming up on 8th March, 2024. Even though many will argue that the celebration of women should be everyday. I am not against that, still there is nothing wrong in setting out a special day to celebrate women as well as promote girl child education and empowerment, the inclusion of women in leadership positions both in the public and private sectors, the continuous discouragement of girl child marriage, violence against women and children. Like this years theme, it will give the UN, women organizations, religious bodies and people at different levels to encourage educating girl child and women as well as empowering them in different sectors of their interest.

Women are unique and special beings talented with multitasking abilities, though the society, religion, culture and tradition had subjected her to be ridiculed as a weaker vessel, sex toys, maid, and a tool for domestic violence.

I celebrate these wonderful creatures like myself, my mother, Dr. Uyinomen Ekong, @patjewell, @eliany, @ngoenyi @wakeupkitty, @ogechukwu-martha and many others who had changed the narratives by proving to the world that even though we may appear weak, we are the strongest being on earth due to our special abilities to function in multiple capacities. We are first daughters, wives, mothers, grandmothers, teachers and leaders in our diverse professions.

There are many renowned women who have proven that investing in a girl child who becomes a woman is not a waste, but rather accelerate progress. Husbands who makes their wives maid and sex toys would have had a better financial assistants if they had allowed their wives to work or establish businesses for them. Government would have had better and passionate leaders if they had allowed women to also take roles in leadership. We would have had a better society if religious organizations and traditional leaders have discouraged early child marriages and violence against women and children. If husbands had treated their wives with care and love, they would have gotten a more productive and happy wives and would have raised more successful children and the world would have become a better place and everyone would have become happier.

If you are a woman and do not have any of the above supports, brace up, encourage yourself in the Lord and invest in yourself. Do not allow yourself to be defined by your husband. Do not allow yourself to be defined by the religion, tradition or culture. Brace up, work hard, develop yourself and standout to shine like a star that you are. If you are unfortunate to marry a violent and abusive husband, stop hiding and tolerating abuse and violence. Speak up there are government institutions that fight against domestic violence, find one in your locality and report any form of abuse and violence you are experiencing and your husband would be called to order. If you are in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, visit ministry of Justice at the Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat and make your report. Do not allow marriage, kitchen, the other room to define your destination. You can earn your own money, you are a leader, you are a professional in different fields, you can do what other beings can do, you are not limited. You are brave, you are strong, you are hardworking, you are a progress catalyst and above all you are a woman. The world awaits your manifestation.
