"Jack of all trades, master of none."

This is how we refer to someone who is good at many things and who doesn’t just focus on one thing and become an expert in it.

Jack, unfortunately, refers to so many of us. The mistake that people make is to think that it is wrong to be a Jack. Well, in my eyes, it is not. It is also not wrong to be the master of only one. What counts is that we are good at something.

Meet Jack and Jack’s niches…

What am I, a Jack, good at?

I am a good organizer

I do believe that being an organizer is one of my biggest skills. Over the years, I have learned that the word "organize" goes far beyond just organizing your desk. Through organizing, I have learned to set my goals, manage my time, make decisions, learn how to communicate effectively, pay attention to detail, do strategic planning, become self-motivated, and make clear decisions.

I am a fast learner

Being a fast learner means having a good ear. You have to listen to what people are saying, take notes, reflect, and then implement. It is only through listening, reading, and time management that you can learn new skills.

So often throughout my career I would end up being the person nominated for a position or task even though I had no clue how to perform the task. I had to learn fast.

I am helpful

I love helping people!

I always place myself last. My mom always said that if I had only one pair of shoes, I would also give them away. Guess what, mom? I discovered that if I give that pair of shoes away, I am blessed with not only another pair but with two pairs.

Through being helpful I have learned the skills of leadership, teamwork, problem solving, having a strong work ethic, communication, rewarding, and playing it forward.

Why do I say it?

Good organizer

I had a couple of businesses over the years. I do believe that it is through me being a good organizer that I can change the words to, "I had a couple of successful businesses over the years."

Fast learner

As I mentioned, I often found myself on the short side of the stick. I was pushed into a situation where I had to learn fast. Oh yah, I know; it was also my own fault as I seldom speak up. Often, it was also seen as a new challenge for me.

Let me take Steemit as an example. Less than a month after I returned to Steemit after 5 years absence, I was asked to join a curating team. Next, I found myself thrown into the deep end when I was made team leader. I had to learn very quickly not only how to perform the task of curator but also how to lead a team.

I am helpful

I always want to help. My family calls me "Mother Teresa," as I am always lending a helping hand. If it is not for my family members and friends, it is for my church or community.

But you can come and have a look; I still have shoes in my cupboard.

What I would like to be good at

I would like to be good at being a social media influencer! Yah, okay, you think I am crazy. I agree with you, at my age, being an influencer will not go down well.

Why an influencer? It will take me completely out of my comfort zone. I don’t like to be in the limelight. I was always the one sitting at the back of the hall, hiding behind the crowds, and the one who could never raise my hand.

• I would love to experience something completely new
• It will take me out of my comfort zone
• I will be creative in a completely different way
• It will help me deal with changes
• It will be a huge challenge for me as a person

I cannot help but wonder, being a Jack, what niche I would focus on. Or will I just let my hair down and be crazy for the once in my life.

The person I admire for being good at something

By now you should know that a person I admire is Elon Musk. But there is also someone else that I admire for being good at something, and that is… Albert Einstein.

Albert Einstein THE smartest man this world had ever seen. Math and science had no boundaries when it came to him.

Think time… motion… gravity… mass… space, and you think Einstein. If it weren’t for him, Elon Musk would not have thought of space travel.

I admire him for being a genius in physics, for staying true to himself even when he was laughed at, and for always wanting to learn more.

Albert Einstein was not a Jack of all trades but a master of all!
