Photo of the Week Contest 22 | Sharing my best Photo of the Week

Greetings my fellow lady Steemians. Happy New Year. Today, I am on a contest by @m-fdo on this prestigious community. I am sharing my best photo of the week!

Well, the picture below captures my saving box and some of the currencies that were saved within. It's my best photo of the week.

From January 2024 to December 2024, I made it an obligation to save 80% of any money I had. I am a widow's daughter, and for years, financial ineptitude of different sorts have always caught up with me since I wasn't born with a silver spoon. My mother has a lot of responsibilities on her shoulders and I hate to add to that with expenditures I should be able to afford for myself. With conscious desire to put an end to this, I decided to do some side jobs and employ the art of saving. I took this decision in the first month of 2024.

My Earnings

I began to make cornrows on my female neighbors' heads charging them a thousand Nigerian Naira or less at times.

Each time my mother gave me 300 Naira for snacks (which was every Mondays to Fridays as a secondary school student), I'd save 100 Naira.
I did assignments for my classmates sometimes, tough ones, and charged them a thousand Naira or less. It was even with a view to earning that I joined Steemit in September 2024. Any spare money I had were not squandered on impulse buying or on nutrition-ineffective junk food, but in my saving box. This continued till the last month of 2024.

Advantages

On 1st January 2025, I broke my saving box. My mother was surprised to find out I was even saving in the first place. She told me how proud she was of me and said me a few prayers.

I withdrew 22,850 Naira. I was so amazed. I've never made so much money myself at a blow. It's meagre to the average earner but to me, it's a Jackpot. I'll definitely withdraw a higher amount next year January from my saving box.

I immediately purchased the only textbook I've been needing since I got into the SS2 class👇

Despite my pressing need for it throughout the term, I was determined not to bother my mom for it and bought I did. God stood by my side.

I ordered for JAMB past questions as well. This one cost 9,000 Naira.

The textbook is meant for SS3 students but I don't need to be in that class before I prepare for JAMB, do I?

I put 2,000 Naira in my new 2025 saving box to start up for the year. I used 4,000 to contribute to the New Year celebration we had in our house and I used the leftover money to get myself the snacks I hadn't taken in 12 months.

Bottomline

The breaking of my saving box was the highlight of my week. Consequently, the first two pictures are my best photos of the week. They remind me of my one-year struggle, starvation, sacrifice and worse. It was worth it nonetheless.
