DIY: recycling paper

Hello, friends!
Today we're going to look at the process of crafting paper.

These tips helped me out a lot when I was decluttering my workspace. I decided to transform some old sketches and notes to new sheets of paper.

Here's how!

1. Get yourself some equipment

You will need:

  • Water
  • Plastic storage tub
  • Kitchen blender, or anything to mix the paper mass
  • Wood boards OR sponge & rolling pin
  • Lots of paper
  • Stiffened felt sheets, towels, wool blankets, cloth, kitchen towels, pellon, sham-wows, or other flat absorbent material
  • A mould-and-deckle; you can make your own or buy it.

2. Prepare the raw material

Cut or rip up your paper into small pieces (~1 sq. inch or 6 cm²). ATTENTION: NO PLASTIC!

3. Make a mass out of it

Add water to your paper. For convenience, you can let it soak a little. Blend it properly, so it becomes a pulp.

4. Drop this mass into the water

Since we need a thin sheet of paper, let's drop it into the tub now. If it's too much/little, feel free to experiment.

5. Use a mould-and-deckle!

Now it's time to get our paper! Carefully gather some water into the mould-and deckle and let the water drain to a drip. The mass should be left over.

6. Couching (coo-ching)

Carefully put the sheet onto an absorbant surface.

7. Pressing

It helps to remove any redundant water from the sheet. You can do it with a sponge as well as with a board.

8. Drying

There are many ways to dry your paper - choose anything you like!

And here you are! The paper's ready.

I hope you enjoyed reading this post. In my opinion, recycling paper is a good way to keep our daily life more sustainable.

All the materials were taken from here.
Wish you all the best, dear readers!
