Choices! What will it be? #74

I am glad to pour out myself in contests like these especially those created by you my friend. Another contest with yet a very exciting edition created by my friend @patjewell. My choice will be Legacy and we're going to dive right into it.

What Is Legacy?

I recall what my elder brother said to me about legacy, he said and I quote Legacy isn't about being noticed but being remembered the word legacy has to do with so many aspects of one's life but it is all about being remembered either by the things you did, or the things you left behind.

According to the English dictionary Legacy has the following meaning with examples as used in sentences

(legal) Money or property bequeathed to someone in a will.
Something inherited from a predecessor or the past.
Synonyms: heritage
John Muir left as his legacy an enduring spirit of respect for the environment.
(education) The descendant of an alumnus, given preference in academic admissions.
Because she was a legacy, her mother's sorority rushed her.

Now, we can all admit that I or rather my brother had a point when he said it's all about being remembered. That brings us to the question which is being remembered as what exactly??

I'll be letting you in on some amazing stories as we struggle to find the right answer to this question above, just stick with me on this.

Story One

The picture above has to do with the first story I'll be letting y'all in, and it is about a young man who was born out of wet luck, his father had nothing to do with him since he was at the very verge of a breakthrough in his career as a government official in the highest and most powerful positions there is. The mother on the other hand was still a student in the highschool and she had to drop out just to take care of the young boy.

Fast forward to 5 years later, the boy's father after attaining the level he was after came back to take his son back hearing the unfortunate news of the mother passing away due to an unexplained illness, the son was being taking care of by the Grandfather who was willing to forgive the Father's irresponsible behavior and agree with his request to take his son.

Fast forward again 28 years later, the young man has grown to become another powerful entity in the government just like his Father, he got married and now has children of his own, he didn't follow in his father's footsteps of abandonment. The picture there is his second son.

Lesson to Grab

• The young man has left behind a legacy if he is to pass away now, he has 2 spitting images of him and he will be remembered as the man who didn't follow in his father's footsteps.
• The young man's father on the other hand has a legacy of grooming one of the most powerful man in the government.

Story Two

This is the story of a young beautiful girl who lived her life to the fullest, she knew the good and the evil sides of life but choose to stick to the good side as much as possible, she knew it was going to be hard and she was ready for that.

She did well in school and made sure she didn't repeat because she knew that her parents were poor, there was not enough money to sponsor everyone to school yet alone a girl child who according to the laws of the land wasn't even supposed to go to school since they would be married off when they turn 18.

Knowing that she didn't relent in her studies and her fight to break that tradition of no education for girls. At her 18s she was at a training school where she met the love of her life and they became one that was after her graduation and job placement.

She became a teacher of a government school alongside her husband and they lived happily ever after and gave birth to 2 children. The picture above is her first son.

Lesson to Grab

• The fact that she break the unlawful tradition which contradicts girls from getting schooled, she left a legacy as a self sufficient and strong young woman for other girls to follow.
• She has can now support her family with the job she acquired and she has children who can remember her by.

Story Three

This a story of a young man who sprung up from a family of 2 strong persons. But ever since he turned 5 years old, he has been experiencing health problems. This became too much to the point where he almost died.

Everyone knew that he was gonna pass away since the diseases he suffered from were known to kill adults who suffered the same fate. To their greatest surprise, that young man strived and became a fine young man.

Though he hasn't achieved much yet, he is on that path to achieving lots of greatness so that he can make his parents great and make them have a legacy of their own in him, and same to him as well.

Lesson to Grab

• The young man already has a legacy of being a survivor and even if he doesn't accomplish that final part, that legacy still stands.
• His parents will be remembered as being the most formidable parents ever known to him.

Conclusion

The stories above gives us a very clear definition of legacy relating it to achievements, decisions and memories of things we've been through. Legacy though is about being remembered but it should be being remembered as the personality that conquered in the story of life. Being the sole author of your story gives us that advantage.
