• What do you understand by the word "food poisoning"?

Food Poisoning is a sickness. This happens whenever bad germs, such as bacteria or viruses, come into our body through food. It happens usually when we eat spoiled or unhealthy food. Food poisoning can happens In Bangladesh mainly from street food, undercooked food or food which isn’t stored properly. It can effect our body and our health.

• What are the symptoms of food poisoning?

The symptoms of food poisoning are very fast. Side effects are include stomach discomfort, bloating, gas, nausea vomiting and diarrhea. There may be headache, fever, and weakness in muscle. All these symptoms can make us feel very uncomfortable. In general, if a person is poisoned by food, then she/he may fall weak very soon. They might require a doctor’s attention.

• What are some tips to avoid it?

Tips for Avoiding Food Poisoning

In order to prevent getting a food poisoning disease, we ought to follow a couple of measures. First it is important to wash hands before handling foods to be prepared and before consuming them. Wash it with soap and running water in order to wash the germs away. While preparing the meals always ensure that meats, fish and chicken are properly cooked until the are done. Raw food products such as meat and milk should be stored in a refrigerator. Do not consume food that is bad or spoilt and ensure the kitchen is clean.

• At what point can we say that a particular food is safe for consumption?

Safe Food

In order to determine food safety it is important to look at food odor, color and texture. If the food has an uncomfortable smell we can refuse to take it. If the food looks unusual too, then do not take it. Ensure that the food gets well cooked. If the food is left at a wrong temperature longer than required time it can spoil very fast. It is also advisable that you check its condition before eating the food. Also, clean the cooking tools and their containers.
