Greetings and welcome to my blog. I must say that I was suprised on seeing this topic but at the same time I was excited because it was an unexplored region for me hence I was glad to delve into the lesson.

I frantically search for ropes around me to use and even asked from many of my neighbors but none could help because I was really eager to partake in the lesson and then I was told I would buy the rope in the market and off I went and was glad I found it and here I am to partake from the lecture.

Have you ever made knots? Tell us about your experience. If they are separate, it is better to better appreciate the execution of each one.

Well my answer is a big no. Aside thing the knots of my show lace and for my younger ones, I’ve never tied knots and I didn’t even know it was a thing hence you could see my excitement to participate.

As I watched the lecture videos on different types of knots, I was excited and decided that I must get this knowledge.

Well tying the knots initially was a bit tricky but I watched the videos over and over and as I practiced repeatedly, I learnt to tie them and could do it off hand. It was an interesting experience.

Place the parts of a rope on the rope.

The rope is made up of different parts which includes the standing end, the night, the loop and the knot.

The plain knot

This knot was very easy for me to practice. It’s the type of knot used in making a neck tie. I used the steps in the lesson to achieve this.

Clove hitch

This is also called the sailors knot. It’s used for climbing or sailing activities just like the name sailors knot implies. It can sustain pressure and easy to unknot. I practiced this with a cup just like in the lesson.

Ace Guide

This type of knot is made by creating a loop at the end of the rope and knitting it around what we want to move. Just like the name is used to act as a guide to take something to where we want it placed. It’s easy to tie and untie after item placement.

What uses can you give to these knots in everyday life?
  • Knots come in useful when lifting heavy loads in industries. They are used to secure the loads and even for the safety of the workers.
  • Ships are anchored with the help of knots, in electrical and shipping industries knot secured climbers and even in rigs.
  • Knots come in handy and very important in our everyday lives for example we tie our shoes everyday and knot ties. Different types of knot come handy for daily activities such as slip knots used in hunting and camping activities for tent pegging and bowline knots for boating.
  • Knots are used in farming, marines jobs, and construction sites and etc
  • In tent making, knots are useful for securing the tent pegs and making them stand strong. * Knots are used to secure backpacks for proper lifting and movements.
Which one was easier and harder to make and why?

The plain knots, ace guide and clove knots were the easiest for me. I had issues with getting a hang of the figure eight knots and daisy. But with practice it became better. My rope seem not long enough to get the daisy knots.

Did you make any mistakes when making the knots? What are the most common mistakes when making knots and how can we avoid them?

Initially when I started learning, I made some mistakes but with practice, I improved and was able to do them on my own and off heart. There are some common mistakes people make with knots and there include;

  • Not using the right knot: Different knots are made for different things. One of the mistakes people make is to use the wrong knots for a particular tasks not assigned for it. This can cause slippage and harm. Therefore we should use the right knot that’s suits each task.
  • Ropes tied over time should be inspected as this can wear and tear due to exposure. Negligence on inspection before usage can cause harm and even death.
  • overloading the rope is another mistake people make. Each rope has the limit of loads it can carry. No considering this can cause breaking rope and subsequent harm.
  • Making use of the wrong type of rope for a task. Each rope has it specific task hence it better to ask questions if not sure of what type of rope to use to avoid harm.

Thank you for reading through my task. I ask @edu-chemist, @alli001 and @besie20 to join the learning challenge
