Splinterlands for Investors | What Cards to Invest In?

in SteemLeo5 years ago (edited)

This post is a sort of continuation from my previous post Splinterlands for Investors? What is the best way to invest in the game without playing it? DEC | ALPHA | BETA | CARDS, where we have looked into the options for investing in the game, and saw some data on the historic prices and volumes.

Options for investing in Splinterlands

As mentioned in the previous posts these are the options for investing in the game:

  1. DEC
  2. Packs (Untamed, Beta, Alpha)
  3. Individual cards

More on no.1 and 2 in the previous post.

Investing in individual cards

One the conclusion from the previous post was that investing in individual cards is probably the best way to go. Now there is pro and cons on each type of assets. Some of the pros is that cards can be rented out for passive income, unlike packs or DEC. The rare cards that are out of print have high probability for increasing in price in the future. On the cons side, individual cards have low volume and can vary in price a lot. Because of the low volume sometimes it can be hard to sell them.

The criteria that should be met for a card to be worth investing in are:

  1. High prices
  2. Usability
  3. Sell Volume

The combination of the above guaranties that the card will be rented out easily and sold out easily as well. The high prices and usability means that players will want this card, as it will be useful for them, providing them more wins and rewards, but the high prices will mean that a lot of them will not be able to buy and they will rent it out. The sell volume of the cards means that it is liquid and can be sold easy.

Ruining these criteria to each card is a topic for a wider analysis. Here I will just mention some of the obvious choices.

  • Legendary summoners
  • Neutral Legendries
  • Rare summoners
  • Key cards for each element

Legendary Summoners

Here we will be looking into the legendary summoners option as they seem to be the most obvious choice.

The last two, AA and PJ are promo cards that comes with mystery potions and those are very very rare.

When looking at the cards performance usually we want to see they key data:

  • Price
  • Trading volume

In the previous post, I have gone through these for DEC, ALPHA and BETA.

Data on price and volume on individual cards is a bit trickier to find. There is no historical data on the official web on Splinterlands yet. I have been looking for some methods to dig these data combining data from the blockchain and from the SM api, but it’s a bit complicated and will take some time.

At the moment Peakmonsters is the best thing that has some data on cards selling volume. Let’s take a look.

Plado Emberstorm

The fire legendary summoner. Here is the volume in the last 4 weeks according to Peakmonsters, at the moment of writing this, Jan 18, 2019.

03.png

Key Data:

  • Quantity: 81 BCX sold
  • Value: 1059 $
  • Average price: 13.1 $

Note that the quantity is in BCX, and not a card sale. A maxed out summoner has 11 BCX, so the number of cards is most likely lower.

Valnamor

The water legendary summoner. Here is the volume in the last 4 weeks according to Peakmonsters.

04.png

Key Data:

  • Quantity: 42 BCX sold
  • Value: 491 $
  • Average price: 12.6 $

Prince Rennyn

The earth legendary summoner. Here is the volume in the last 4 weeks according to Peakmonsters.

05.png

Key Data:

  • Quantity: 57 BCX sold
  • Value: 1566 $
  • Average price: 27.5 $

The Peakrider

The life legendary summoner. Here is the volume in the last 4 weeks according to Peakmonsters.

06.png

Key Data:

  • Quantity: 90 BCX sold
  • Value: 916 $
  • Average price: 10.2 $

Crypt Mancer

The death legendary summoner. Here is the volume in the last 4 weeks according to Peakmonsters.

07.png

Key Data:

  • Quantity: 162 BCX sold
  • Value: 1839 $
  • Average price: 11.4 $

Selenia Sky

The dragon legendary summoner. Here is the volume in the last 4 weeks according to Peakmonsters.

08.png

Key Data for the Beta Edition:

  • Quantity: 42 BCX sold
  • Value: 435 $
  • Average price: 10.3 $

For the Alpha edition there is no data available for trades on Peakmonsters in the last 4 weeks.

Archmange Arius

The dragon promo legendary summoner. Here is the volume in the last 4 weeks according to Peakmonsters.

09.png

Key Data:

  • Quantity: 124 BCX sold
  • Value: 6150 $
  • Average price: 49.5 $

These numbers are a bit surprising, in terms of high volume, having in mind how rare this card is.

For Prince Julian there is no data available for trades on Peakmonsters in the last 4 weeks.

Here is the summary from above in for of a table. A 4 weeks data.

SummonerQuantity Sold [BCX]Value [$]Average Price
Plado Emberstorm811,05913.1
Valnamor4249112.6
Prince Rennyn571,56627.5

Crypt Mancer1621,83911.4
Selenia Sky [Beta]4243510.3
Archmange Arius1246,15049.5

What do you think? What is the best option?

Hope to get some data with a longer historical period soon.

All the best

Its never to late :)
Glad you find these posts valuable ....

Aren't Alpha popular commons the best option? Easy to acquire and give DEC boost.

The commons need a lot of cards to maxed them out .... so not that cheap if you are going for maxed out cards.

Contestkings sold off 4 at $400 each. I think they're 10 bcx as they come maxed out.

What cards ... the AA?

Yes, he dumped 4 Arius from his @megadraw account, hence the volume.

Reward Legendaries.

These either have to be bought or earned.

They get dumped because they're gained "for free" and then later picked up when people see their value.

Yes those are interesting as well.
Especially cards with high usability like Lord Ariantus :)
