Foreword

Your Android phone will never be like the first day you unboxed. They install apps and games and store many junk files that negatively impact performance.

Fortunately, you can follow some tips for accelerating your Android device.

These methods aren’t as fast as the latest Android smartphones, but they significantly improve system performance and smoothness and continue to function as they did on the first day. Note that improving

Performance does not mean improving performance on device benchmarks or suddenly running resource-intensive games smoothly. Tips can help improve the overall smoothness of your phone and improve everyday usability.

If you’re having trouble playing PUBG or Genshin Impact, the following tips will probably not change this situation.

Some of this advice is very simple, just delete unwanted apps, games and files. If these basic solutions don’t work, you need to take things to a higher level. Consider doing a factory reset or installing a custom ROM on your Android smartphone.

1. Free up disk space

You need to make sure that your phone’s memory is not completely full, as it can have a serious impact on performance and can significantly reduce performance. This will take longer than usual for basic tasks such as opening and installing apps, playing videos, etc., and will randomly disconnect your phone under load.

On your Android device, go to Settings> Storage and check the free space. Samsung device owners can go to Settings> Device Care> Storage to see a breakdown of their internal storage usage.

Alternatively, you can search for Storage in the Android device settings menu to find related options.

Do not use more than 80% of your storage capacity as your phone and the operating system itself require about 5-8GB of free space for it to function properly.

You can clean up junk files, uninstall unwanted apps, and delete all photos and videos backed up in the cloud to free up storage space.
Some phones have a built-in junk cleaner that frees up a few GB of storage space with just a few clicks. Samsung users can go to Settings> Device Care and run optimization services to quickly free up storage space. Xiaomi phones have cleaner apps that do the same. You can also use the Files by Google app to quickly clear your app’s cache, duplicate images, large files, and unwanted media files.

And if you are a heavy user of WhatsApp, you can remove unnecessary WhatsApp media and reuse your valuable storage space.

2. Uninstall unused apps

You should always make sure your phone is running the latest software version or the latest security patches available.

Google is constantly optimizing Android with each new version to improve performance and smoothness.

Upgrading to a newer version of Android may free up system resources on your device, reduce app load times, and improve system smoothness.

Uninstalling old unused apps on your Android device does not directly affect performance, but it frees up storage space. This can be very helpful, as I’ve already explained.

If you have a lot of apps running in the background, uninstalling them frees up valuable resources and improves the smoothness of your system. Samsung phones will automatically highlight background apps that are consuming excess battery.

You can then uninstall or kill it. We recommend that you regularly check the apps and games installed on your
device and uninstall any apps or games you no longer use.

3. Change the speed of system animation

Changing the speed of the system animation on an Android phone doesn’t increase the native speed, but the device seems to be running much faster. Increasing the scale of the animation will make the graphic finish faster and feel like better system performance. However, in reality, Android phones still work.

This trick is great if your Android phone animations are especially slow or slow. You can also turn off system animation altogether if speed is prioritized over flashy effects.

4. Restart your smartphone

images (81).jpegsource

When Android’s memory management deteriorated significantly and RAM capacity was limited, experts recommended restarting your smartphone daily to see the best performance. This is no longer true, but it’s a good idea to restart your device at least every few days.

This tip frees up resources occupied by unwanted apps running in the background, improving overall system smoothness, especially on low-end or low-cost Android devices that don’t have a lot of RAM.

It also helps clear unwanted resources occupied by memory leaked apps. Unless many apps and services are running in the background, the improvements aren’t very noticeable on new Android phones.

5. Using the Lite Edition app

images (84).jpegsource

Google and several other developers offer the Lite or Go edition of the app for older low-end Android devices with limited RAM allocation.

Lite edition apps consume less resources than full-fledged apps and provide essentially the same experience, but you'll miss some features.
Google offers Lite editions of several apps such as Google Go, Camera Go, Assistant Go, Maps Go and more.

Lite editions of other popular apps such as Twitter, Spotify, Skype and Facebook can also be found on the Play Store.

These services lack some of the features found in the full version, but should still be sufficient for everyday use.

Another advantage of Lite / Go edition apps is that they use less storage space. This can also be a problem on older Android devices with limited internal storage.

As a more extreme approach, you can consider using Progressive Web Apps (PWA) and other services such as Twitter, Starbucks, and MakeMyTrip. However, PWAs do not work offline and have their own limitations as the experience provided is far below that of native apps.

6. Update to the latest software

images (87).jpegsource

All major Android manufacturers have come a long way since the dawn of Android and now tend to release software updates for mobile phones frequently.

The best part is that with almost every update, these manufacturers are trying to further improve the performance and smoothness of their systems based on user feedback.

Samsung, in particular, has done a great job of providing monthly security patches and new operating system updates to all devices in a timely manner.

7. Factory reset

images (85).jpegsource

If these first few tips don't improve the speed and smoothness of your Android smartphone enough, you can reset your device to factory reset. Of course, most people see this as their last effort.

This action basically requires you to restore the device to its original state, erase all data and start over. Set it up again, download the app from the Play Store, and sign in to your favorite app or service.

This can be a daunting task, and the results may not be very impressive, especially if you are using older devices. In such cases, you should consider upgrading. Even budget and midrange devices can perform better than existing phones.

When you are ready to reset your Android device to factory, back up all your important data. After resetting your phone, check the list of downloaded apps. If you don't want to install an app that wasn't available in the first place.

8. Consider installing a custom ROM

images (82).jpegsource

If you have a relatively old (and slow) Android phone (or one that has reached the end of manufacturer support), you should consider installing a custom ROM or kernel.

The Android mods community isn't as active as it was ten years ago, but custom ROMs, or kernels, are still available on fairly popular devices.

Installing the custom ROM or kernel will void your device's warranty, but don't worry if it has already expired. Make sure the bootloader is unlockable-without it you would be out of luck.

For example, most Samsung phones sold in the United States in recent years do not allow you to unlock the boot loader. For phones where unlocking the boot loader is not an issue, how to root and install a custom ROM or kernel depends on the variant and device manufacturer.

Therefore, take the time to understand the whole process before diving into the world of custom ROMs.
Custom ROMs are typically performance-optimized and do not come with bloatware, so you need to free up storage space on your phone. It's also a great way to try out a newer version of Android if the device manufacturer no longer supports it.

Custom ROMs can bring new life to your cell phone and significantly speed it up. However, if your device is out of date, the new Android version may experience performance issues due to high system requirements and outdated hardware.

The LineageOS and Paranoid Android are one of the most popular custom ROMs, but they are not always the best choice for your device in terms of stability. Be sure to do some research before deciding which custom ROM to install on your device.

The XDA Forums are a good place to start in general.

Conclusion

By following the tips above, you can speed up your Android phone considerably faster. Ideally, you should use these rules as a checklist from time to time to ensure that your Android smartphone is performing at its best.

Keep in mind that these are just hints and cannot make up for the lack of actual hardware resources. It may be time to buy a new smartphone, especially if you have an old or cheap Android smartphone.
