Introduction

Adoption is referred to as the process of legally taking up the responsibilities of being a parent to a child.
Legal adoption involves the permanent transfer of all rights and responsibilities from the biological parents to the adopted parents.
Unlike being a guardian to a child, adoption is permanent and such requires recognition from the society through legal or religious bodies.

Main Issues An Adopted Child Faces

Grief and Separation
Most times, adopted children often feel this grief and separation between them, this is because they tend to suffer the loss of their real parents and these feelings may result in fear of abandonment and rejection.

Identity Problems
Adopted children go trough identity problems, especially as adolescents.
When the adoptees have little or no information about their biological parents, some adopted children tend to struggle in order to find a place in their adopted family, some may even end up viewing themselves as different or unwelcome in their adopted family

Mental Health Issues
Children who previously suffered neglect, abuse and trauma at their early age may have more emotional difficulties, because many of them will have problem bonding or trusting their adopted parents.

Legal Implications of Adoption

The legal implications of adoption is bent mostly on the parents. Once a child is adopted, the biological parents are no longer seen as the parents.
So therefore, the child will be treated as the natural child of the adopted parents and such, all rights to the child are transferred to the adopted parents and the child can only inherit from the adopted family and not from their biological parents because he is no longer their child.
The adopted child can not marry the children of the adoptive family because they are all regarded as siblings.

How Adoption Is Viewed In My Community

In my community, adoption is viewed as a legal action. Though when a child is newly adopted, people tend to talk and gossip about it. But after some time, they get used to the fact that the child is a part of them and they don’t deny the adopted child any of their rights.

How I View Adoption Personally

Personally, I think adoption is welcome development. It is a way of helping those who can’t have their own biological children have a feeling of parenthood and also to help take care of some children who were abandoned by their real parents.
It gets to a point that everyone forgets about the fact that a child was adopted because the children automatically becomes a member of the family.
So I highly recommend adoption.

Ways To Handle Challenges Of Adoption

• There should be a cordial relationship or special bond between the child and his adopted family.

• The adopted family shouldn’t be biased in terms of showing love to the children.

• Before adopting any child, the full history and family of the adoptee should be known incase any need arises.

• Adopted children should not be deprived of their rights and inheritance by their adopted family.

Conclusion

Adoption is very helpful and it has made a lot of family united especially those who can’t have their own biological children.
I specifically want to appreciate the government for making adoption legal and for putting up some rules to guide it.

Adoption is one activity that has come to stay owing to the fact that childlessness, inability to get a spouse and intentionally act to jettison marriage will not cease to exist.

I believe every legally adopted child deserves equal right as any other child in the society although people will always find a way belittle or malign adopted children (such a barbaric act).

If not that Adoption was made legal some families who are unable to put to birth might have died due to unhappiness but because of Adoption they have been able to get them selves children not just a child

Adopted children should not be deprived of their rights and inheritance by their adopted family.

I agree with you on this. Most times this happens when the couples later have their own children but it shouldn't be so. Once a child is adopted into a family, he /she legally becomes a member of that family and have equal rights with every other child there.

You are so right

The adopted child can not marry the children of the adoptive family because they are all regarded as siblings.

Thank you for pointing this out in clear terms. Most adopted children are molested because their exploiters believe that they are not related by blood and the action is no incest.

Exactly
