We are delighted to welcome you to the very first Talking Point show. This is a brand new project designed to create more engagement among our community members. We will be discussing a lot of issues - pretty much everything. Each day of the talking point, we will raise a topic and allow our members to tell us what they think about it. We discuss it, sample opinions and learn from others. We welcome you once again to this Talking point first edition.

This is an open discussion in which we welcome people's view on the matter. So to participate, the host will raise the issue by making the first comment on this post. Then participants are free to start replying with their opinion about the issue discussed. So here is what you need to do:

I have scammed so many times.And I have decided not to been scammed by any person again.First I was scammed in the year 2016 by one company called sinapis.I was convinced by one of my friends that I should invest #10,000, that I will be paying 10,000 for 6 months and if I introduced anyone that I will earn 10percent of their investment.
I invested #40'000 immediately and brought people that investment huge amounts of money.
After 3weeks they ran away with our money.Even that my friend that introduced me ran away till date I have not her again.

Have been scammed just once I think. Entered my card details in a fake site and in a blink of an eye I lost 55k just like that.
Reported to the bank but they couldn't do anything 😢

This happened last year. Can remember the name of the site.
Was very bitter when this happened, stopped using the account for a long time even after I blocked the card and got a new one.
Hahahaha. You really got angry with the account and bank. But am sure they were not the cause. Did you later use the account?
I know it wasn't there fault but just thought that there should be something they can do to find the culprit.
Started using the account early this year, got a new ATM card.
You finally forgave them. That is nice. So when you see those sites that ask you to put your card details, what do you do?
Actually the bank won't be able to retrieve it, just be careful on how you give out your card details.. Sorry dear
•1: Yes I have been scammed.
I was on Facebook one faithful day and saw a private message telling me that if am the first to wish a happy birthday to kanu Nwankwo, that there's a prize for me. So I hurriedly sent the happy birthday to the link that was dropped and that was how my journey of scam began.
They chatted me privately and even demanded my phone number, which I sent to them. At first it seemed real that was why I was falling for everything they say.
Along the line they listed a whole lot of prizes that I've won and asked for how I would love the items to get to me,, I told them they should waybill it naw. They now started giving me charges. From lagos to Abia state was 5k, so I hurriedly sent it to them with happiness that am gonna get gift of 50k. After some days,, I tried the number, and I was told it was not available.....
•2: Well, steemit is not a scam because if it is I don't think I will be preaching to you about steemit. I have joined steemit since 2020 and I have benefited a lot from it. So no scam attached to it.
Oh my God! you are quite lucky. A friend of mine sent 30,000 naira for something similar. It's all good sha.. Sorry ma. And i myself have come across stuff like that but i always choose to ignore.

I invested elort of the money, called e-commerce company. Infact when you see there marketing plan, you will believe that it's reall. Not only that, the have all the documents to prove that the are not money laundering company. After re-investing all I had, the platform collapsed. It was really a painful moment to me

You are not investing anything so if Steemit platform is no longer there tomorrow what did you lose?
It's a block chain based platform.
As for the investors, I will ask them to make more research about Steem. Then I will direct them to one who is superior than me to explain more to him/ about Steem. And how reliable the platform is.
Am really sure your method has been productive. Yes they have nothing to loose at all. Have you been able to turn a doubter into a believer - to join Steemit?

My next door neighbor happened to be the doubting Thinks. But I kept sharing my testimonies with him. Being a Crypto person, he made research about Steem. Letter he signed up. His user name is @palvalintine

Have been scammed through online platforms whereby I pay in money and I get blocked and other occasions I found myself in the name of you use money to chase money.
If someone says steemit is a scam am gonna smile and explain things they don't know about this platform and am gonna show some proofs through my steemit account or I tell them to visit our training Center to see by themselves that we aren't scammers.
So sad. Am sorry about that. Did any of them happen to you this year? 2021? How much did you loose?

I used to show some people my steemit wallet and transactions just like you say and some say it won't last. So I hardly show them my transactions now. Except my close friends and relatives

A friend of mine whose account was hacked so unknown to me the person asked me to send him #5000 that her mom is in the hospital and all the stories that followed so I sent the money thinking it was my friend Chizzy not knowing it was a hacked account so later that evening I called her on phone to ask if she received the money she told me about on Facebook, she was asking me which money ? It was later that she told me that her Facebook account was hacked my goodness!!!
I was shocked, she was even surprised when I asked her if she received the money I sent to her. I had to explain everything to her and she was also shocked, she really felt bad for me but what could I have done at that moment, I had to endure the agony and let go.i believed God will send much more for me

If someone ask about steemit being scam I would show the person my account and account of numerous white men in the platform as well as the blacks just for clarification then I would sit the person down and educate him or her on basic things about the platform such as the fun that comes with meeting new personalities, writing abilities, money making, investment and so Much more
at least with these the person's mindset will be changed

Hmm..my dear in this case it was my account that was hacked and my friends were receiving several messages thinking it was from me. I had to block it found out. Sorry for your loss though.

Scam, as God will make it, I've never been scammed before because I dislike the habit of investing 2 naira and get 10 naira within few minutes.
I believe in working hard to earn not just sit and earn.
Whenever people react that steemit is scam, I invite them to read about the platform online.
I also do explain that since they are depositing nothing, they have nothing to loose eventually it turns out to be a scam.
Finally for those who know me personally, they know I can't lie because they have seen changes and they know I don't engage myself in quick money

Well lucky you i guess. Some times, some of us get desperate because of hardship and will want to double our money in a short time. But now trust me even if you are doubling money in my presence, i will totally ignore you. Like you said it is better to work hard and earn, that is why i am here.
I have been scammed before, it is a long story but i will try to make it,it happed in 1992 when i was doing rice business we were 4 business people that paid for rice my own was 24 bags others,30,20, and 10 bags, when the rice arrived we uploaded them in my packing store,when the driver and his people left, within 10 minutes we now entered my shop to Carry some bags to the market, we noticed that the rice was reducing up till now am still wondering how it happened, before we know it the the rice disappeared and remain just 8 bags before our very eyes, that day i read 2thimoty 3:1 so it helped me to endure the lost of ₦43,000 then and one of us the one that had the 30 bags fainted with his wife and 2 of them lost their life,the other 2 cried uncontrollable and i joined people to comfort them, that was my first time of experiencing scam.

We did not see the supplier again even the shop where we bought the rice, as we went back to the big market to complain we found out that many big business men and women were scamed too

I have never been scammed actually,I try I be very careful in my dealings with anyone.
Secondly, when some one says steemit is scam, I really be telling them that, if I can do steemit then it's not a scam. I have benefited a lot from steemit and there is no stopping.
Waooh. You have been so careful. So when people come with pay 5 to get 20 in 1 hour, what do you tell them? Have you been able to convince a doubter to join Steemit?
If someone say Steemit nis a scam, I will not argue with him, yes i will not because people have experienced so many online scam business so many will not believe that Steemit is different so the only thing i will do is to encourage him to make research and make decision

I usually arrange my school fees on time before the beginning of each semester. I decided to use the money for the investment since I can pay the fees anytime before the exams. My course mate that introduced me got his returns several times. That is what convinced me the more.
I made the payment the first time. After 25 working days, I got my pay. I was happy, I did another one and got my pay again. My account manager there, encouraged me to gather more money for bigger pay. Even though I borrow from anybody but I increased my investment. The two times I have gotten, my capital as well as additional money was added. After 25 working days, I didn't hear from them. I called the account manager, his line wasn't going. I went to the office, it was swept clean. That was the last till now. I still retain my identity card for it as shown below

I have been scammed before. There was a sand business deal in Uyo which people put millions of naira and get double of what they invest in the business in just one month. People were buying latest cars and land from it. Just when the deal was introduced to me, I invested with 480k and it never came back
What!!!! this must be so painful. Did they disappear with your money or what. When you asked questions, what did you discover?
They actually used to pay those that started early with them. And when more people get to know about it, they collected the money and started giving excuses until they finally ran away.

I have had a good scam attempt, but none has been successful. A friend of mine says my firewalls are too sensitive.
I am highly suspicious of business deals that comes my way. I sometimes loos genuine business due to my suspicions.
So i only have failed attempts to share....
Scamming is not a new thing, i have been not once,not twice but several occasions but one thing is for sure, you must serve before you become a boss

It goes this way, my bestie account was hacked and I didn't know, the scammer used my friend to chat me up about ponzi scheme and by then, I was in desperately in need of money, i made 20k payment to the account that was sent to me, the deal was to get 40k back in the next 1 hr but I waited patiently but no benefit, i called the number and the lady told me to hold oh, there are many people on queue , i should hold up but in the next 2 hrs, the number was off and i called my bestie and she told me her account was hacked the previous night, that is how my 20k went

It is in the process of wanting quick money that some of us get heartbroken, and in this case i presented to you an opportunity to make money with clear rules and you are still scared. In this case i will just take it that you don't want to work for the money which will make me see the person as lazy.

It took time to clear Steemit as legitimate, my being a steemian came after plenty of scrutiny.
To take off their fears
