Introduction

For every human project to succeed long-term and remain efficient, periodic assessment is always in order. Such evaluations help to identify weakness, work on them and implement changes to make things better. LID (Live and Direct) reporting has been a project we all love. Styled after modern on-the-spot news service, LID aims at helping everyone stay informed about things happening in other places as they happen. Through the reports from our many participants, we are able to witness instant events such as traffic situation, markets at a particular point in time, meals, sunrise and sunsets, etc .With LID, we have enjoyed live moments delivered to us from various places. We have enjoyed LID in 2020. As the year ends in 3 days from now, we decided to start working on making a better LID in 2021. So the following 5 changes will improve the quality of content presented in our LID reports.

5 new features for LID in 2021

1. LID Spotlight: The first feature we want to add to our reporting come 2021 is Spotlight. For each days post, we will pick one or two major events which must be included in the report for the day. The Spotlight will help all appreciate how the same event or situation happen in various part of the world. All reporters must include the spotlight as one of their reports for the day. Here are examples of LID spotlights:

• Street Traffic
• Sunrise
• Sunset
• Market or Mall
• Restaurant
• Natural feature (Rock, Mountain, Forest, River, Stream, Cloud)
• Domestic Animals
• Local businesses
• Fruits
• Food
• Fashion
• People

We will crowd-source more ideas for LID spotlight from our reporters. Basically, there will be 1 spotlight for each day. Although we might decide to have two when the spotlight is not something of general nature. For now, we will add 0.1 Steem to any reporter that featured a spotlight for the day. At our discretion, we will add more bonus for exceptional spotlight entries.

2. Picture Location Coordinates: Location coordinates help us to authenticate the existence of each picture independently. Anyone anywhere can easily run the coordinates and verify the existence of that particular location. Previously, we made it optional to add coordinates and many where not doing it. But now, we are making it compulsory that at least one of the pictures in the report must have location coordinates. What3words has been recommended as tool to which can be used to fetch the coordinates of any location. The web version does not require you to install any apps before using it. Check this tutorial by @talktofaith to learn how to use it.

We will add 0.1 Steem to the reporter prize if they includeded at least 2 coordinates in the picture of their report. If the reporter made up to 5 reports with at least 3 coordinates, we will increase their beneficiary reward by 1% in addition to the 0.1 steem given.

3. LID Engagement Leaderboard For each week, we will make a post which would be updated daily until 7 days to show how each reporter performs with regard to engagement. To be listed in this table, the reporter must make at least 2 reports for the day. We will consider two important parameters:

A: Number of engagement: We will count how many comments the reporter made on other LID reports and how many replies to comments made on their own LID report (Comment/reply counting will not include the actual LID report).

B. The quality of engagement: We will not count short one-word or one-sentence comments as engagement. We will only focus on quality interaction made by the reporter. This article will help LID reporters learn how to make quality comments/replies.

At the end of the week, we will make a post and reward the top 3 reporters that engaged most with 60% of the post earnings in this order:

1st: 30%
2nd: 18%
3rd: 12%

4. Report Numbering: This is pretty straight-forward. Each report will include the report number like this:
Location: Abuja
Time: 20.00
Report no: 1 or
1st Report

Numbering the reports will help the curators to count the reports easily. They can easily know those that qualify to earn 2% beneficiary reward in the next days LID post. It will also make it easier to capture data calculated based on the number of reports made.

5. Report Quality: This is so important to us and its an area we want to greatly improve. The following will determine the quality of a report

A: Length of text Each reporter must understand that there is a minimum lenght of the report text. It should be at least 250 characters. Short reports that falls below this standard wont be counted again.

B. Detail: Please be very descriptive. Explain specific things, activities, situations and other important elements of your report. Without looking at your pictures, a reader should understand adequately the message you are trying to pass across.

C. Content: We want LID reports to be informative and educating. LID Reports should be a place where new things are learnt, where great discovery of unique places and special events are made. We want you to shows us interesting and special live events. It must not be about you the reporter. For example, while its not bad to report personal activities, your reports should not always be about you cooking a meal, or drying your cloths. The first report is usually a selfie and some things planned for the day. Subsequent reports should show us informative activities happening around you. This is one reason we added the spotlight. So please be creative, and do not report business as usual. If your report are always predictable (for example always cooking or sleeping), then it obviously lacks quality.

Note: At our discretion, we will award special additional prizes to reporters with great and quality content..

Conclusion

We hope that the following 5 changes will raise the quality and value of our LID reports and foster more engagement among us. We thank our most valued reporters for the enormous job they do to make this project interesting. We are also open to accept suggestions that would make LID a more interesting activity.
