Hello friends, greetings to you all. It is my delight to share my day's activities for Sunday, 20th December 2020 with you. It was a grand day for because I got to see dignitaries that I have missed for 11 good years since after our graduation from Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, Abia State. Please read along and see how it all went.

My day began yesterday by 3:50am. I woke up because I needed to travel to the city of Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State. It was a home coming because I spent up to 20 years in Abia state. Even though I have been travelling to that city from time to time for business purposes, this particular day was a special one for me.

So as soon as i woke up, I did one or two things and got ready for the journey. The reunion was supposed to start by 1pm but I left earlier so that when I get to the city, I can connect to zoom and enjoy my Christian meeting with my brothers and sisters which was to begin by 10:30am. Thank goodness that I was able to get to the city early enough and joined in the meeting.

At 1:20pm, I set out to the venue to have a reunion with my course mates. I was late anyways but I still got to the venue before the programme began. It was delayed due to heavy traffic that held some of the dignitaries that were to present parts in the programme.
Those present include :

The past Rector, who was the Rector during our days in school and the longest Rector in the Polytechnic

Elder A. A Onukaogu (KSJW)
He is now the Rector for Uma Ukpai Polytechnic, Asaga Ohafia. He was our special guest of honour.

And others too numerous to mention. I never imagined that it was going to be as grand as it was. We we lectured on the topic :

ENTREPRENEURAL SKILLS: A GREAT ASSET TO ALL ACCOUNTANTS

The lecture was delivered by our own Snr Lecturer and former Head Of Department, Mr. Fijoh Kalu Omeh (MBA, FCA). In his lecture, he stressed the need for us graduates to strive to be entrepreneurs instead of waiting for employment that is no where to be found.
According to him, it takes special kind of persons to make successful Entrepreneurs. The reason is because, it is a venture that is risky and it will exert heavy demands on your time and resources. Therefore, for you to succeed, you need a strong inner drive to take control of your destiny and reap the fruits of your labour.

Based on this premise, an accountant that intends to be self employed even as a financial consultant, or in other industries must posses the following skills or qualities to succeed.

He/ she must be committed, Determined and persevering even under difficult circumstances.

You must focus on what you must do to succeed rather than on what you will do if you fail.

You must be creative and innovative: generate business ideas based on the prevailing market needs, bearing in mind your circumstances at the moment: be dissatisfied with the status quo, and find ways to improve. Have a high desire to innovate and bring your own approach to doing things. Non-comformists are adepts at spotting opportunities others have missed.

you must recognise and grab opportunities as they arise

You must be willing to take calculated risks

You must be adaptable and accept change as part of life

You must be a quick learner who views mistakes and failures as temporary setbacks and use what you learned from them as opportunity to improve.

The list of the lessons learned from the lecturer goes on and on. At the end of his lectures, he asked thought provoking questions. These questions are

have you developed financial intelligence?

which skills do you have ?

what value can you create?

what demand can you meet?

Apart from reading and passing exams, what else do you have.

He went on to conclude that he realised that the Nigerian Education set up now isn't setting us up to meet the demands in real life, How would you explain what you did to get certificate and still hunt for any job available. By all means, we all need to rise up for ourselves and acquire Entrepreneural skills which is a great asset to all accountants.

Wow! Wow!! And Wow!!! It was amazing.
After the lecture, other dignitaries were given the opportunity to give their own speeches and I really benefited from them all. It was as if I was back to school. I remembered the school days. Those memories can never be easily forgotten.

Next was the Awards. Those rectors were given Awards of honour, I took some pictures but by then I was in a hurry to take my leave because it was almost past 5pm and I needed to travel back to my city of residence and it will take me 2hours and 39 minutes. Here are the few pictures that I took

I left as soon as the award presentations were half way. But I learnt that they even cut cake and did other things. I missed but I am not worried because I have learned a lot already.
I was accompanied by my brother in law and outside the event hall, but within the hotel premises, we took the picture below

I and @omerenma. I asked him why he has not been active for some times now, he said that he was writing his post graduate project, exams and project defence. That he will soon be active again. I tried my best to encourage him to see the need to be active again. He promised to and soon.

I then left the value to the park, my brother in law sent with me and ensured that our vehicle left before he departed. He really kept me company. We later left and I got home by past 8pm. I met my family in good health. We were happily United again. We chatted for a while, I then freshened up and retired for the day.

Dear friends, that was how the day went by. It was a wonderful day for me.
