INTRODUCTION
In recent years in Nigeria, since the inception of Bank Verification Exercise (BVN), many citizens of this country has been put to difficulties resulting from errors in the filling of names and date of births on the BVN registration form. Most times, these errors are caused either by the enrollee or by the enroller.

On the part of the enrollee, such errors are often because of inconsistencies in bearing different names and using different date of births while opening bank accounts with different banks. Such blunders has cost most persons dearly financially and time wise.

The Blunders
How many names do you have and how do you write them while filling any kind of form?
Should you use different date of births at different occasions?

Many have been sent to get affidavit of facts from a Judicial Court due to these inconsistencies. Imagine a person profiling Frank Ebuka (2 names), in one bank say Fidelity Bank Plc and then profiling also Frank Kokoete Ebuka (3 names) in another bank say First Bank Plc.

This same person will write 4th day of December, 1993 in Fidelity Bank Plc and still write another date entirely in First Bank Plc. How do you reconcile with these names and dates? Getting and affidavit from a Judicial Court becomes imperative resulting in expending money and time. How?

Depositing money with the banks is not a problem but making withdrawals or transfer of money from your account to another account lies a huge mountain of problems. Such people encounter the problem at a time they quickly need money from their account to either pay a hospital bill, pay a child's school fees or even to make investments.

The Penalties
At that point, the bank blocks your account. You go to the customer care, she tells you to wait behind the cue. At your turn, you narrate your ordeal, she scrolls through your profile up and down and send you to another table where you would have to get your BVN data printed. You collect it and move back to her, she then tell you to go court and affirm and affidavit of fact, reconciling and correcting both your inconsistent names and dates of birth.

How much time have you wasted?

You then take your BVN data print-out and rush to the court which at times may be far from the bank, so you need to pay for a transit fare. On getting to the court, you are ask to sit down wait, the court attendant charge you like Two Thousand Naira (N2000.00). You begin to beg for a reduction of price, you may be fortunate to pay less.

In some cases, by the time you finish with the affidavit, the bank may have stopped attaining to customers and then you are asked to come back the next day.

Those are the cost of inconsistencies, the blunders of bearing different names and date of births in opening savings or other types of bank accounts. Are the penalties cheap or costly? Will you be consistent with your name and date of birth?

In my next post, I'll write a format of an affidavit of fact in reconciliation of name and correction of date of birth. Just in case it happens to you.

Stay tuned!
