DEFINITION

A Computer is an electronic device that can access and process data to give us a useful information. There are 2 types of Computer - Digital and Analog Computers.

A Digital Computer is any type of device that can solve problems.

digital computer, any of a class of devices capable of solving problems by processing information in discrete form. It operates on data, including magnitudes, letters, and symbols, that are expressed in binary code—i.e., using only the two digits 0 and 1.

An Analog Computers are those devices used to process data manually. We have the examples like: Thermometer, Speedometer, Clock, Calculator etc.

An analog computer is a computer which is used to process analog data. Analog computers store data in a continuous form of physical quantities and perform calculations with the help of measures. It is quite different from the digital computer, which makes use of symbolic numbers to represent results.Nov 14, 2016

In this series of Computer education of my write-ups, I will be focusing on the Laptops, although Desktop computers are still very much in use but most persons today uses the Laptop as it is easily accessible and easy to carry about.

PARTS OF A LAPTOP COMPUTER

Majorly the physical parts and components of a Laptop are:

  • Screen
  • Keyboard
  • Mouse
  • Battery
  • Power Cable

While the other internal components are the :

  • CD Drive
  • ROM (Read Only Memory)
  • RAM (Random Access Memory)
  • Mother-Board
  • Capacitors
  • Diode
  • Resistor
  • Transistor
  • IC (Integrated Circuits) Which are Chips that are used to run a certain command.

The ROM is the Hard Drive that holds the information. The RAM holds only temporary information. It is more like the middle-man between everything that happens inside the system. The RAM is like an errand boy, holding smaller informations at any given time.

PARTS OF THE KEYBOARD

  • Function Keys (F1 - F12)
  • The Number Keys
  • The Alphanumeric keys containing 25 alphabets
  • The Space Bar which is the longest key of the computer
  • The Cursor Key that serves as the Mouse
  • Special Keys: These includes a number of keys used collectively as each serves a different purpose.

Let me mention the most outstanding keys often used. These are: Escape (ESC) The Power button, Print Screen (PrtSc) Scroll Lock (ScrLk) Pause Button, Insert, Delete, Home, End, Page Up (PgUp), Page Down (PgDn) Cancel (X), Enter Key, Brackets, Shift Keys, 4 Arrow keys, Control (Ctrl) Alternate key (Alt) Caps Lock (CapsLk) Tab Key, Selecting Keys.

You do not need to become an expert in learning all these keys first before you can operate your computer or Laptop. All you need is to start studying them gradually and practice with the main keys for your keying in words and numbers.

In my next article I will show you how to start Computer operations in a simple method.
Am sure you have learned something new here. Watch out for the next article in my Blog Channel on: How to Operate the Computer.

Thank you.
