People who uses online banking ought to tighten their security as it involved their funds. The simple truth is that, it's very easily for your data to get compromised therefore risking your online banking then you could imagine.

In this publication, I wish talk about some things one needs to be cautious of, when using online banking.
These things ranges from when using your phone to when you're selling it or giving it out to someone.

I know the feeling of how your hard earned money vanished in the hands of fraudsters or cybercriminals simply because you were lazy in protecting it is what you will never wished for.
Listen, as you're now enjoying technological development such as bank, online shopping, online banking or USSD, ATM etc there are some things which might be minor to you that you do which are likely to expose you to the hands of internet fraud.

Kindly check the things you ought to do when using online banking below;

✍️

Sign out to your account or wipe your data

This first thing sounds logical right? Because it's very common yet I must tell you, many people fail to do so, and this caution is for them.

When you sell your phone or computer which you're operating online banking with or maybe do counterbalance as the case may be without signing/logging out to your online banking, you will obviously expose your contact, email, and other bank details including your social accounts to a maybe a fraudster who acquired it from you.

It's meaningful to sell your phones to a trusted person though but since we need money at a moment, we tend to sell it out to whoever. I personally will advise you to wipe your entire data by resetting the phone or computer before selling.

✍️

Stop logging in to your account when using public WiFi or in the cyber cafe

I never thought using public network is risky but I now believe.
On public network, especially those that doesn't require password, your details can be compromised by using virus programs.
Your funds can be easily stolen through this very easy way, incase you don't know.
This is how it happens; a cybercriminal or fraudster may install a keylogger on their own either computer or phone and will steal your passwords as you type in. You can activate your strong and up-to-date VPN instead.

  • What is keylogger:
It is an application or software that can monitor all the things you type on your keyboard.

To some people, they have set their phones's browsers such as chrome, Opera Mini, Firefox, Phoenix etc to automatically save password so it's better to avoid using people's phones to log in your sensitive accounts.

✍️

Stop clicking unknown links

As far as computer security is concerned, we will never stop cautioning people of unsolicited links.
You may get these links from either email or social apps . These links mostly promises you of big rewards, how to earn without stress and the likes.

Make sure you trust the sender and the source before clicking. Moreover, I will recommend chrome Brower for you at this juncture. It'll help you to detect as soon as you click an untrusted link. Secured links are mostly https while insecure are http, know the difference.

✍️

Do not store your card details on betting sites

Actually when you make a payout online via debit card, they'll ask you whether to save the card for when next you'll wish to make a payout. Same happend on betting sites which has an option of depositing money through card also.
But the simple truth is that, these sites can't be trusted.
Just few days ago we read that the Bet9ja site has been hacked and many cases of funds dismissal and card compromise were reported.

Other things I'll recommend you to do when using mobile banking

Aforementioned are my top cautions for in this publication to adhere to, if you're using online banking even though they are many things to consider of which some are : to avoid giving your bank card or simcard to untrusted persons for any purpose, avoiding making payment on unknown websites or gateways which are likely to steal your data, avoid leaving your phone to bad minded folks and lots more.

I hope you learn something. Your feedback as well as suggestions are welcomed in the comment box.
