Hello dear steemian friends, it's great that we can continue the Steemit Learning Challenge (SLC) course in Season 22 Week 5, hopefully you all enjoy the course material this week.

👨‍🏫 Introduction

In previous courses we have discussed the competencies that must be possessed by a teacher, namely pedagogical, professional, personality and social competencies.

On this week's occasion we will specifically discuss two important aspects of personality and social competencies. It is hoped that after studying this topic, teachers can form attitudes and personalities that can be a source of examples and role models so that they are worthy of being followed by all their students.

The skinny objective

  • Know the personality and social functions inherent in a teacher
  • Understand the steps to apply in daily life with students
  • Describe a personality that can be modeled and exemplified

💁‍♂️ Teachers as examples and role models

The term teacher in Indonesia is often referred to as “Guru,” which is a combination of two syllables “digugu” and “ditiru.” Guru digugu dan ditiru is an expression that comes from the Javanese language (one of the most populous tribes in Indonesia) to describe the ideal teacher. This expression itself contains deep meaning about the role, duties and responsibilities of teachers in educating students.

“Digugu” means that the teacher can be trusted or obeyed, meaning that every word of the teacher students can trust him as a source of truth so that it must be followed and obeyed.

“Ditiru” which means the teacher can be used as an example and role model, so the teacher is not only his words that can be trusted but also his behavior, actions and manners can be an example and example that must be followed by students.

Thus, the teacher's task is not only limited to transferring knowledge to students, but also plays an important role in shaping student character, especially in the affective aspect. A teacher must have a good personality, so that it can be a role model for all students. The way they speak, think, and perform various activities will be an example followed by their students.

So far, we can understand that a teacher's job is not only to teach subject matter, but also to do character building. This includes fostering an attitude of honesty, discipline, responsibility, concern for others, and respect for elders and love for the younger.

These aspects are important factors that need to be continuously shaped and developed during the learning process. This is where the teacher's personality and social competencies play a crucial role. All these processes take place from the beginning to the end of teaching activities, emphasizing the importance of the teacher's role in shaping student character. So wherever, whenever, in any activity teachers must maintain a good attitude, behave well and maintain their morals.

💁‍♂️A video of an exemplary teacher

On this occasion, I have a video that you must watch, the story in this video shows that a teacher has succeeded in being an example and role model for his students, especially in taking care of, caring for and nurturing parents. This video shows one example of a teacher who should be emulated.

The point is that every teacher has a different character and personality, but in front of students, teachers should try to control behavior that can reflect negative attitudes so that students do not take example from this behavior.

Imagine if a teacher taught while sitting on a table, or what if the teacher chews food while explaining the subject matter, what happens if the teacher glares when angry at students, or puts both feet on the table when explaining the material. All of these behaviors are clearly inappropriate and can create a negative impression in the eyes of students.

To my knowledge, there are two subjects that specifically play a role in the character building of students, namely Religious Education and Civic Education. Religious Education encourages students to behave well, be noble, and love each other. Meanwhile, Civic Education provides knowledge to students about love for the country, unity, and the importance of maintaining the values of the norms of national life.

Teachers who teach subjects such as Mathematics, Arts, Computer Systems, and other subjects also have a very important role. In addition to transferring knowledge in accordance with their knowledge, teachers also need to foster and develop student character by instilling important values, such as:

1.Honesty11.Social care
2. Justice12. Openness
3. Patience13. Sincerity
4. Empathy14. Integrity
5. Humble15. Creativity
6. Consistency16. Independence
7. Responsibility17. Unity
8. Generosity
9. Optimism
10. Disciplined Attitude

Bendiciones. Realizare mi participación.
