On this week's occasion we will learn about SWOT analysis techniques for teacher self-evaluation, using SWOT analysis techniques can also be helpful for those of you who want to start a profession as a teacher.

👨‍🏫 Introduction

Self-evaluation is like taking a picture or reflecting on yourself.

As a teacher, we should not be satisfied or even feel that we have carried out our teaching duties perfectly, so we need to continue to evaluate ourselves, evaluate the achievement of the learning topics that have been given to students, or evaluate the teaching skills that we have done so far. This is very important if we want to become professional teachers.

By using the SWOT analysis technique, we believe that every teacher can develop the potential that exists in themselves, teachers can develop skills in teaching, teachers can be more confident, teachers can face various kinds of problems and problems in teaching.

💁‍♂️ SWOT analysis technique

This SWOT analysis technique was coined by Albert Humphrey in 1960, using this technique we can understand our current position so that we can develop strategic plans in the future.

This technique is very popular in the world of business and industry, but recently this technique has been adopted to improve the progress of the quality of education.

This SWOT analysis technique stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats.

We can evaluate our teaching activities using this technique by creating a box or table, after which we can write as much information as needed.

It is important to note that strengths and weaknesses should be internal, something that happens within you as a teacher. Be honest and identify as many strengths and weaknesses that exist in yourself when you do teaching activities, this is important so that we can develop our potential and improve existing weaknesses. As for identifying opportunities and threats, make sure everything must be external.

🙋‍♂️ Teaching Evaluation Steps using SWOT analysis technique

So on this week's occasion we will use this technique to do a self-evaluation of the teaching activities we have done so far, let me show you some examples.

Strengths 👇

  • I am able to communicate well using everyday language and am able to provide examples that are close to students' daily lives so that the subject can be more easily understood.
  • I am well-versed in the subject I teach and have several years of teaching experience, so I am able to teach using a variety of effective methods.
  • And so on.

Weaknesses 👇

  • When teaching, I like to spend time telling stories, which makes some of the sub-topics of the subject matter not reached in the allotted time.
  • I often feel annoyed with students who are stupid and not actively involved in the subject matter, this makes me tend to pay more attention to smarter students.
  • And so on.

Opportunities 👇

  • Every semester there is a subject teacher consultation activity, this activity can be useful for me to develop my teaching skills because I get a lot of experience and input from fellow subject teachers who teach the same subject.
  • The school where I work has a number of supporting and adequate technological devices, which can help me develop more effective learning materials
  • And so on.

Threats 👇

  • I have a history of high cholesterol, when cholesterol rises this can interfere with my concentration in delivering the lesson material, my head feels heavy and excessive pain in the back.
  • I am strict and disciplined in applying rules to all students, some parents are not happy with my attitude and often protest.
  • And so on.

Finally 👉, after you have conducted an evaluation using the SWOT analysis technique, the next step is to develop a number of strategic plans so that you can maximize your strengths and opportunities, overcome weaknesses and potential threats.
