Asthma

Hello friends, I hope we are all healthy and happy.

In this post I will participate in the Steemit Learning Challenge, my second post in Week 4. You can read my previous participation post on one of the teaching teams, here is the Post link : SLC S21 Week 4 - herbs for energy, Pain Relief and Mental clarity. Alright, we're going into Week 4 of the lessons that @ashkhan has presented, and I'm quite happy to be participating. Let's get started!

As far as I know about Asthma, it is true what the teaching team said in the post, that asthma is an obstructive pulmonary disease with the meaning of a blockage or obstacle if reviewed from the meaning of the word obstructive. Specifically about asthma, I will answer the first point of the homework assignment below later.

In my immediate environment, I also saw that there were several people I knew who had asthma. Difficulty breathing is a difficult sight to tell when asthma recurs, and it's not a nice experience to see. It needs to be known, based on the data I found about asthma in America, through the official website of the United States government. The death rate caused by asthma is quite large, this includes the age group. Here is the reference for such information.

You can also see the data on the number of asthmatics at the link.

In Indonesia, which is my home country, there are at least 12 million more Indonesians who experience asthma, or 4.5 percent of the total Indonesian population in 2020. Related news sourced from the Indonesian Ministry of Health, in this case the site👉🏻 Directorate General Of Health Services.

Based on this picture it is important for all of us, to know and understand about this Asthma disease so that we can recognize early the causes of the disease and have ways and efforts to overcome it through some simple exercises that can be done to reduce the risk of asthma.

What's Asthma? Write in your own words after getting knowledge from the lesson post.

Specifically, asthma is one of the diseases that cause narrowing of the airways in the lungs that is experienced by a person, this narrowing causes asthma sufferers to experience difficulty breathing. The same thing was explained by the teacher, that asthma is a chronic lung inflammation condition that can certainly threaten a person's life, which is caused by the airways becoming narrow and difficult to breathe.

Based on the explanation of the teaching team, asthma is generally divided into two.

  1. First, it is affected by the immune system, which is very reactive and sensitive to allergies.
  2. Secondly, it is caused by inflammation of the lungs that causes swelling of the lining of the airways with the effect of mucus on the respiratory tract.

But based on the information I know, asthma is caused by several factors. Some of these causes can occur by :

  1. Allergic asthma, which is caused by dust and other impurities that enter the body, and is generally triggered by allergens.
  2. Non-allergic asthma, which is caused by weather influences.
  3. Nocturnal asthma, caused by irritants and the influence of air.
  4. Exercise asthma, triggered by physical activity that causes fatigue or other conditions.

For people with asthma, I've seen and know, that patients will experience shortness of breath, and cough that is not controlled, there are unusual breathing sounds, especially in the chest feel pressure and pain, until it is difficult to sleep and rest.

How would you diagnose a asthma? Any clinical investigation or assessment tests?

Because this disease is classified as serious if left unchecked, all of us need to be able to know and be able to diagnose asthma early. The purpose of knowing how to diagnose asthma is so that later we can find out the best way to be able to handle and treat asthma.

A simple way might be to realize the symptoms of asthma, as I have mentioned before, namely shortness of breath, coughing that is not controlled, there are unusual breathing sounds, and the chest feeling depressed and painful until it is difficult to sleep and rest.

In general, and what is more important when someone wants to know the disease they suffer from, it is not advisable to self-diagnose the disease based on indications. This can add to the adverse effects of the disease, even though he has felt the symptoms of an illness.

Diagnosing the disease is certainly better using clinical investigation, meaning that it is directly examined by the doctor on the patient. This also applies to asthma, as part of diagnosing and treating various medical conditions associated with asthma. As explained by the teaching team, the assessment of asthma can be done with the following investigations, to make a definitive diagnosis. Clinically diagnosing include :

  1. Chest X-ray.
  2. LFT (lung function test).
  3. ABG (arterial blood Gas).
  4. Sputum analysis.

Try to practice at least 3 exercises that you have learned from the lesson. Share images, gifs or videos while practising.

In this third task, I did the exercises from the three types of exercises shown in the video, although I am grateful that I am not an asthmatic. But I will try to do the exercise and I will tell you how I felt after doing it, in the fourth task later.

The three exercises I tried were :

  1. Pursed lip breathing exercise.
  2. Diaphragmatic Breathing Exercise.
  3. Chest Stretches.

Here are the pictures that show me doing these 3 exercises, with time for about 5 minutes.

1️⃣ Pursed lip breathing exercise

Share your review after performing these exercises either on yourself, healthy individual or patient

The following is a review that I described after I did the 3 exercises, so I can explain well according to what I did and felt.

When performing pursed lip breathing exercises
⏯️ When doing Pursed lip breathing exercise, I feel awkward or uncomfortable. However, there is a difference in the upper part of the abdomen, as there is air entering slowly into the chest.

When performing diaphragmatic breathing exercises.
⏯️ After I did this exercise for 5 minutes in the right way, I felt there was an interesting part of the chest and back. I also felt slightly different breathing on the lower part of the ribs, and the spine. The next impact is a slight sense of relaxation and calm when doing it calmly and when done in the right way.

When performing 2 chest stretching exercises.
⏯️ The two exercises that I do are also not much different from diaphragmatic breathing exercises, there is a sensation of breathing and muscles that feel attracted, even more so if done above 5 minutes, I have tried it. The most noticeable part is the back muscles, after that, I get a breath of relief, although I am not an asthmatic.

My conclusion :

At the end of this post, I can conclude that asthma is a disease that makes the lungs, especially breathing, suffer a lot if we experience it. The cause factor can also come from lifestyle and also influenced by environmental factors that cause allergies and exposure to chemical substances.

Or more clearly asthma is a disease that occurs in chronic lungs, which causes inflammation and narrowing of the airways in a person's body, and asthma can attack anyone.

Several exercises can be done to reduce or even eliminate asthma said to be done with proper treatment or in other words doing physical therapy intervention exercises for asthma. The exercises include: Box Breathing, pursed lip breathing exercises, diaphragmatic breathing exercises, and chest stretching.

So many posts about my participation in Week 4, hopefully, this will be a useful post for me and whoever reads it. I also invite @irrawaddy, @radjasalman, and @elagusella to participate, best regards to all of you.

Thank you for understanding the lesson and sharing your assignment; I hope that you will enjoy this week's lesson and try to implement it in your life if you see any such case.

Observations

Task 1 (3/3)
You have shared a great knowledge about asthma, and it's causes, symptoms, types. I appreciate your effort.

Task 2 (2.8/3)
In the second question, you tell us about how you have to assess a patient by doing physical examination and history taking, performing the investigations of patients and specialized tests. The best machine for assessing a asthma patient is spirometer that measure lungs function properly and make final diagnosis. Great.

Task 3 (3.7/4)
You try the pursed lip, diaphragmatic breathing and chest muscle stretch. But while performing breathing exercises try to make a gif to elaborate it more and other can understand easily. Secondly in pursed lip breathing you have make the exact whistle like position of mouth that's good. But in chest stretch try to keep your arms straight and don't exceed beyond your flexibility level. Remember always take steam or nebulization before performing exercises to relax your muscles & dislodge sputum that can excrete out easily. I appreciate your efforts.

Overall you made a great attempt to answer all the questions. I appreciate your efforts. But next time try to avoid the above written suggestions. Keep learning and try to implement your knowledge to the people suffering from any asthma as winter is the trigger of most the people suffering from asthma. Thank you.
