Get to Know More About Plant Stems

Hello Literacy friends, best regards to you all.

In the discussion in this third chapter, I will talk about stems in plants, this is a continuation of the publication that I have made before. I hope there will be many readers, from students and teachers, who will benefit from this educational publication, and I will continue to share it with all of you.

In the previous discussion, we learned the benefits of plants for life and the environment, we also learned he function of roots, the benefits of roots for growth, and the types of roots. In this post we will discuss about other parts of the plant called the stem, let's get started.

We all know what materials to make a house from. Not all, but almost all houses use wood as a complementary material for making houses. The walls of the house, for example, are not all made of brick or cement, windows and doors are also the same, which use natural materials as part of the House. **The Material used to make the material is Wood, a common thing in use.** The need for wood for the manufacture of houses continues to be used every year, even the use of wood is also used for other purposes, and cooking fuel is one of them. And of course, there are many more uses of wood for human life.

Wood is a raw material that comes from a tree, the part of the plant that is used is the trunk. What is a rod? Probably all of us know about it. But to be able to recall what a rod is, here is a description.

What is a Plant Stem

The Stem is the part of the plant that is located above the surface of the tanan after the root, the place where all other parts of the plant grow and rest. Parts that have their functions for plants and plants, which are divided into several types.

Some stems come from dicotyledonous plants, monocotyledonous plants, and also woody stems. Dicotyledonous means a flowering plant that has two seeds, Monocotyledonous is a type of plant that has a single seed also called a single seed. Plants that have a woody stem generally come from plants with a taproot (see previous post about roots.

Function Of Stems In Plants

As we all know, all parts of plants have different functions. Likewise, Stem is a part that is also very important for plants. The stem of the plant functions as follows :

  1. The Stem is the supporting part of the plant that is the foundation for the parts of the plant itself, such as roots, branches, leaves, fruits, and flowers.
  2. The Stem is a part of the plant that also serves to transport water and mineral substances throughout the upper part, such as twigs, leaves, fruits, and flowers.
  3. Stems also serve as a place to store food on plants.
  4. In a vegetative way (grafting), the Stem can also become a tool for breeding.
  5. For some types of plants and herbs, the stem becomes a breathing apparatus.

Types of Plant Stems

To make it easier for you to distinguish dicotyledonous plant stems, Monocotyledonous plant stems, and woody plant stems, try to pay attention to the picture below :

All types of stems in plants are equipped with various layers or structures, the layers or structures of the Stem are as follows:

  1. The outer tissue of the Stem is called the epidermis, the outermost part of a plant stem layer.
  2. The cortex which is the inner layer after the Epidermis.
  3. Stele cells or tissue from the stem consisting of Pericicles (layers of cells that strengthen the stem), Xylem (a network of vessels that are useful for transporting water and minerals), and phloem (a network of vessels that function to transport the results of photosynthesis derived from leaves).
  4. Cambium is a layer of meristematic tissue (active cells) in plant stems.

However, rods are divided into two main types that are often explained in school. The two types are woody stems and wet stems, what is the meaning of both, here is the description :

Woody stems.

The woody stem is a type of stem that has a hard shape and texture and looks stiff, a part called the Cambium is found in woody stems. This Cambium will divide and multiply cells on the stem, thus making the layer on the stem get bigger. So that this woody stem has a diameter that is getting bigger and stronger, that's why woody stems can grow and last decades. This woody stem is often used by humans to meet primary needs, for example, houses or other buildings.

Wet Rod

A wet Rod is a type of soft-structured rod that contains a lot of water in it, different from the Woody rod that I mentioned earlier. The stems of this wet type are easily wilted and also collapsed by circumstances and conditions, this is often seen in many plants around us. Another factor why wet stems are not as strong and sturdy as woody stems is because they do not have Cambium as woody stems. The terms that are often used for wet stem plants are herbaceous plants and terna plants (annual plants that die easily).

By reading this post, I hope that we can all again understand what a rod is. The function of the trunk? And types of stems. With the hope of being a useful post for students and teachers in adding insight and information about plants that I have discussed in several posts that have been published.

In the next post, we can discuss other parts of the plant. Until the material about plants is the source of life can be understood and understood well by all of us. So many simple posts that I can share with you all, hopefully useful and I thank everyone who has read this post.

Beberapa jenis tanaman memang menyerap karbon dioksida dimalam hari, bukan melepaskannya.
