Greetings to every steemian and happy new month, It's a pleasure partaking in this contest.

Quality education is an essential tool that can be employed in the growth and development of any nation; it helps in the production of a whole man that is not just relevant to his or herself but to the community at large.

The rate of mental handicap has drastically reduced in many nations as individuals have been brought several times to the theater of knowledge where they are left to unlearn, learn and relearn.

Some decades ago, in the primitive society,certain persons were held with high esteems due to the massiveness of their knowledge bank; they were often consulted for advice wherever such needs arises. How did they get this knowledge?- well, it could be through experiences, intuitions, creative thinking, etc.

One of the most vital stakeholder in the various phases of formal education is a Teacher, synonymous to tutors, lecturers, facilitators and so on.

Who is a teacher?
I don't think there's any scholar's definition of a teacher that is preferential to others since it all depends on the point of view or perspective of the scholar.

Someone said that a teacher is like a candle which light others in consuming itself.
But I will define a good teacher based on their qualities;

1. Knowledgeable:A teacher is one who has a verifiable information that has the ability of transforming the life of an individual and the society at the moment or in the future.
2. Mind Repositioning: A professional teacher is one who is trained to study human minds through scientific approaches in order to help individuals attain a state that he or she would be well-positioned in contributing to the facets of the community with a better standard of living.

1. Architect: A teacher could be likened to an architect as he or she contribute immensely in the shaping of the life of an individual educationally, vocationally, morally and otherwise through a well-developed and implemented curriculum.

2. Mentorship/Counsellor: Every good teacher is always willing to see his or her students become successful in life. so he or she is ever ready to give the necessary guidance to ensure the actualization of the students dream.

The teaching profession is a superset of every other profession we can think of and I suppose that we have benefited from the services of a teacher in one way or the other; So it wouldn't be out of place to celebrate our distinguished teachers.

What are some people's perception about the teaching profession?
To some people, teaching us seen as a non-lucrative profession compared to other profession like Medicine, Law, Engineering and so on.
Many are of the school of thought that teachers will best be rewarded in heaven. This sounds weird, right?
I could remember when one of my siblings got informed that I had decided to change my course of study to chemistry education;she wasn't happy about it, she had her reasons.

Are there challenges in the teaching profession?
Just like in other profession were there is/are challenge(s), there are also some peculiar challenges in the teaching profession, which could range from:

• Attending to every student needs which will need the employment of different approaches is quite tasking as every student is unique and different parameter may be needed to solve the student's problem.

• Working with very large class size: many teachers get worked out is situation like this and the find it difficult to assess the student's academic performance. In this scenario, many can't administer Continuous Assessment Test(CAT) more than once.

• Lesson note: many teachers find it challenging to prepare their lesson note on time considering it a tedious task as they would have to do a whole lot of research in order not to dish out outdated information or judgement.

Time will fail me to continue the list, but in all, teaching is a noble profession where you can earn a lot from.
