Contest 4:38 - Looking back/Looking forward
I still remember the time I was small where children were really taught how to respect and fear their elders.
Respecting your elders was one of the important part of a growing child, such that the idea of a child talking back at his parent was seriously frowned at.
A child who disrespected any adult was viewed as a very bad one and parents will often warn their children not to associate with such a child just to guide against immitating his quality.
Nowadays however, children talking back at parents seems to be the new normal life. A lot see nothing wrong with a child arguing with his parents as if they are age mate.
This is because parents are throwing away the value that was instilled in them back then thinking it's old fashioned.
It's really necessary that parents teach their children that elders must be respected, they should not only teach but show by example, that is show respect to older ones themselves.
This is necessary because children nowadays attach importance to what they see more than what they hear.
And I believe that a little more effort on the parents side will help bring back those so called old fashioned values of respecting the elders.
We can then look forward to seeing our children grow up with those values and happily embrace the the importance of respecting their elders.

I agree with you and am glad my children still show respect but I notice too no one does respect them and they are always overruled and overshouted.
What I find worse is how the elderly are disrespected and killed because they are 'useless' and cost too much money.

I hope we will find that balance back. There's so much the elderly did to build the world we live in. They have so much knowledge we can learn from.
