Proxima (2020) – Movie Trailer
Just a short notice at the beginning of this review… Don’t expect too much sci-fi from this movie, or some extra movie effects, as this film is more drama, than action and the majority of the scenes are filmed on the ground, and at the European Space Agency in Cologne… The movie Proxima is more a story about the emotional battle of a woman who wants to accomplish more in her career, but on the other side, a mother of a small child. The movie comes to theaters on May 8.
The story follows Sarah, a French astronaut that is preparing for the new space mission called “Proxima”, that should last around one year. Her decision to participate in this space programe costs her relationship with her daughter… As the launch date is closing, the pressure is bigger and bigger for everyone in her surroundings…
The director and the screenplay writer is Alice Winocour, a writer, director, and actress known by her works on movies like Mustang (2015), Disorder (2015), or Augustine (2012). The collaborator on the screenplay was Jean-Stéphane Bron (Cleveland Versus Wall Street (2010), L'expérience Blocher (2013), Mon frère se marie (2006)).
In the main roles are Golden Globe nominee Eva Green (Casino Royale (2006), Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014), The Dreamers (2003)), Academy Award nominee Matt Dillon (There's Something About Mary (1998), Crash (2004), Drugstore Cowboy (1989)), Zélie Boulant (Pieces of Me (2012)), Lars Eidinger (Clouds of Sils Maria (2014), Personal Shopper (2016), 25 km/h (2018)), Sandra Hüller (Toni Erdmann (2016), Réquiem (2006), Finsterworld (2013)), and others.
