My fellow Steemians

Let me start right at the beginning.
Due to my husband undergoing an operation last Tuesday, I was a good wife and spent most of my time with him in and now also out of hospital.

As far as Steemit, I had a normal week regarding lending a helping hand and performing my duties, but a quiet week as far as my own blog.

My activities for the week follows.

Steem For Ladies

What a fantastic week we had!
With the break in the Steem Engagement Challenge, we received a lot of extra posts. In fact, we received 50 more posts than the average per week.
One thing I can say is that the team was kept busy.

We thank you for your support! And, a big thank you to the team!

My duties:

1. Curation and verification of posts on my day of duty as well as filling in on the days of others
2. Educating and monitoring 8 moderators
3. Validating MOD verifications
4. Verifying new members
5. Booming posts submissions and community voting
6. Taking care of community notifications and comments
7. Writing of 2 community posts
8. Monitoring and running of community contests
9. Lending a helping hand to members of the community
10. Approval of moderator contests

General:

Steemians kept me busy on and off on Steemit. Support was given to 9 Steemians. This support happened mainly via WhatsApp and Discord.

Africa:

Africa is still a priority for me regarding supporting posts, commenting, and giving advice.
I cannot wait to read those posts about the Africa Cup of Nations that started this past weekend.

Communities

Advice was given to two communities.

Curator

Support and advice were given to two curators.

Issue encountered:

The question that followed me wherever I went was: How are the winners of engagement challenges chosen?

Steemians cannot understand that they comment like crazy, with 100+ comments, and yet they were not nominated as winners.

I want to highlight the following from the Steemit team’s engagement invitation post to the communities:

Selection of Challenge Winners
Each week we would like all 7 Challenge communities to make a post on their community account announcing the three people who have demonstrated the most engagement in their weekly contest both through the quality of their contest post and the quantity and quality of their comments on other people’s contest posts.

And then also

We will leave it to each community to decide how they select their weekly winners, but they should include in their announcement posts a brief summary of their selection process.

Of importance, voting like crazy is not going to make you a winner.
No, you must follow the selection process as set out by each of the communities, and if you are not sure, ask!
Don’t find yourself spending hours each day commenting just to find your posts not being nominated as winners.

As for the communities, I want to urge you to make sure you have included your selection criteria in ALL your engagement posts to avoid any misunderstandings.
