Today I am going to share about firewalls so I would like to delve into its different aspects.

A firewall is network of security system which is used for monitoring and controlling icoming and outgoing traffic dependent upon predetermined security regulations. It is basically acting as restriction between trusted network and untrusted network just like internet.

There are two major types of firewalls which are based on hardware and based on software.Firewalls that are based on hardware are built in network device like routers and software based firewalls are installed at individualized computers or servers.

Firewalls are used for analyzing coming and outgoing traffic and for blocking or permitting it depends upon rules defined by administrator. They can filter traffic dependent upon sources like IP address, destination, protocol and port numbers etc.

Firewalls may be easy to configure in different modes like Network address translation,Stateful packet inspection, application level gateways and circuit level gateway.There are different benefits of firewalls which I am explaining below;

√ Firewalls are useful for providing network security.
√ If I talk about protection from malware and viruses then firewalls plays a role in it.
√ Firewalls are used for providing control on coming and outgoing traffic.
√ Firewalls are important for enhancement of performance of network.
√ Firewalls are significant for reduction of risks of unauthorized access.

There are some rules of firewall network which are used for defining that what kind of traffic is permitted or blocked.There are some of rules in which one rule is to permit incoming traffic at particular ports like HTTP etc.In firewalls there is another rule that it only allow traffic from sources which are trusted and also it restrict outgoing traffic to particular IP address.

Firewalls are used for operating at different levels which include network layer which is layer 3, transport layer which is layer 4, application layer which is layer 7 and hypertext transfer protocol which is HTTP.

Firewalls have a lot of benefits but along with this it has many limitations.First limitation is that it don't detect malware with in that traffic which is permitted.As well as firewall can't restrict all kinds of attacks as well as need continuous updates and maintainence as well as impacting network performance.

There are best practices of firewalls which are used for giving surety of firewall implementation by continuous reviewing and updating firewalls regulations, monitoring firewalls logs, implementation of authenticity and usage of intrusion detecting and preventing system, conducting of regular security audits.

If I conclude then firewalls are significant network security components which are useful for protecting against in authorized access, malware and other Regular configuration, maintenance and monitoring gives surety of firewall performance in effective way.
