Hello to everyone in this wonderful community known as Business Activity Happy Sunday to you all from my country. Well in as much as this is a business activity community, I feel that I can talk about a topic that bothers me so much, which I have titled Strike, A factor that limits the growth of businesses situated in Nigeria Universities. often I wonder how investors of various businesses that are situated in universities such as mine. yes, it is true when you decide to run a business in school it is said that you have seen and solved a particular problem, but now what then happens to the business when there are no students to patronize you? it has come to my notice that in as much business owners are after solving a problem and making profits, we must weigh our options, such as what if the school is being shut down today? what if the school embarks on a strike? what if my items/goods no longer satisfy the need of the students. these are certain questions that business owners in various universities do not ask themselves. okay, let us go straight to the business of the day.

WHAT IS GROWTH IN BUSINESS?

Business growth simply means the advancement of the business when the owner, employees, and other external factors contribute greatly to the success of the business in question. if these factors are not available or do not contribute to the success of the business then the business can never grow, be it you have all it takes to move this business to the next level provided that these factors mentioned above are neglected then such business can not experience growth

The growth of a business is determined not just by the effort of the employees or the owner but also the growth is influenced by the external factor sounding the business. now for a business to succeed greatly in Nigerian federal universities, the school activities will need to contribute greatly to the success of a business that is situated in a school environment. that is to say, the school must be in session, running smoothly, and having no complications.

THE IMPORTANCE OF GROWTH IN BUSINESS

Growth is the most vital experience that all business owners are after, it helps for the long-term survival of a business. It enables a business owner to get assets, fund investments, and attract innovations. growth determines the future of a business and it also keeps a business running. without growth, a business is likely to collapse in a short while. growth determines the well-being of a business and how far the business is likely to go.

Just the way we humans grow and attain a particular height, businesses also grows in term of financial stability, profit-making, expanding coast, and a lot more. so growth is very important in a business in as much as that business wants to attain a higher level.

BASIC LIMITATION OF GROWTH IN BUSINESSES LOCATED IN NIGERIA FEDERAL UNIVERSITIES

Lately, I share a post regarding the business activity dairy, where I talk about a business and the activities of that business, but then I realized that the number of businesses in the school has reduced drastically. so I begin to wonder what may have happened to such businesses and no one was there to give me an answer and so after the chit-chat with my friend I zoomed off, I returned to my place and then I began to think what may have happened to the business that has recently shut down and then I found out that certain factors have forced those businesses to closed down. so I will be sharing with us a basic factor that has caused the reduction of business in Nigeria's federal universities using the school I attend known as Ahmadu Bello University as a case study.

• THE ACADEMIC STAFF UNION OF UNIVERSITIES STRIKE

This is the major limitation all business is situated in Nigeria Universities encounters yearly. the academic staff union universities' annual strike has been the main bone of contention against business in schools today. the body always embarks on strikes everyone and each year they embark on a strike more businesses are forced to shut down. this is a result of schools not being in session and as such businesses can no longer take the heat. imagine that as a business owner, you come to your store every day during the strike and you go back home always without selling an item, that will be very discouraging.

Now let's take, for instance, you as a business owner got your items on credit and then bring them down to your store that is situated in the school environment, and on reaching there you got shocking news concerning the school going on a six months strike and you are expected to pay your credit at most three months from the day you collected those items, now how do you go about such scenario?

This has been the problem of businesses that are located in federal universities, with the strike that hits the business owners at any given time, we are not certain to see the business grow in all ramifications it is expected to grow.

I managed to take some photos in school to prove this point of mine, as you can all see, it is broad daylight and these shops are closed. these are businesses that were doing so well not until the strike began. it has crumbled most businesses and now the business owners are forced to find a way out of the tragedy.

Most business owners feed on their businesses and now that the strike has forced their customers which are the students of this school to go home pending when the strike will be called off only God knows when, from what will the business owners feed? This is a major issue that withholds the success and growth of certain businesses and as well leaves the owner of such businesses no choice but to stop the business. because there will be no more money to fund the business, especially business that is being fed from.

The above image shows a show cobble, this man makes shoes so well and also sells them off. this has been his daily routine, comes to his store and sleeps this was not how his store used to look, but since the commencement of the strike, he has been feeding on this store and now has no money to restock his store. due to the customers who require his services are no more available and now all he does is sleep as though there are no students in school to patronize him.

The strike is affecting not just the students but also the school businesses, and this has been a major problem for business owners, forcing them to relocate as though the condition and situation are no longer favorable for them. leaving them no choice but to leave the school environment and go back to their respective society to start up such business as though it is much better for them, at least the society does not embark on any strike also they can sell daily.

Note is not that the school environment is bad for businesses to do well, but the unexpected activities that are ongoing in the school settings are the reason why businesses especially in Nigerian federal schools are not being encouraged. therefore it is recommended that all business owner who runs a business in school should or is expected to have gotten all information regarding the school activities and as well should have an alternative in case things goes south such as the school embarking on an unexpected strike just like this, leaving businesses stranded and to wonder what will be their fate if the strike is not called off soon. so getting another source of income is advisable and highly recommended for business owners in this kind of location.

MY FINAL WORDS ON THIS TOPIC

In as much as we as business owners ha seen a problem and want to solve such problem, we should always keep this in mind, make sure the solution you are trying to bring to the society will also solve your problem rather than leaving you hanging and indebted to another problem. we must know the activities of an environment before situating our businesses there, this will enable us to know what to expect at any given time. before starting up a business ask questions concerning the ongoing in that location in other to prepare you in case of eventualities ahead.
