For today I will talk about the most important aspects of Light contact. This type of modality is usually executed as a fight continues until the central referee pronounces the word STOP or BREAk.
Light contact is a continuous fight of boxing and kicking techniques. In general, it is considered light contact combat where the knock-out is not valid. Unlike the point fighting fight, the fight is continuous and they do not stop until the referee decides.
This combat is a tatami modality, it consists of three judges located at the ends who mark the valid blows and kicks with a clicker in each hand, one in red and blue to differentiate each fighter.
After finishing each round, the results of the clicker are passed to a form or ballots, where the sum of the points obtained by each fighter is made to be counted by the technical table and giving the winner to the one with the highest number of points.
The punches allowed are the basic boxing punches, all kicks above the waist, the front of the back, and the head.
The score for each area of the body is as follows:
• A spinning jump kick is 3 points
• hits to the back are 1 point
• kicks to the face are 2 points.
The light contact combat consists of three rounds of two minutes each for one minute rest and athletes over 13 years of age participate.
In our academy, we also adjust to this type of regulation, because I consider that children do not have developed those skills for this type of combat and of course their physical performance.
In the weekly workouts we are increasing physical exercises and jogging to increase their cardiovascular performance and thus they can endure the three rounds since this type of combat is not only the technique but also is to apply intelligence to know how to manage energy versus time.
