Contest – Wildlife Photography

Hello, I am @senehasa from Sri Lanka. This is my first entry to the World-of-Photography Community.

Sri Lanka has a variety of wildlife, among them, elephants get a prominent place. The Sri Lankan elephant is a unique subspecies of the Asian Elephant. Elephants are symbols of strength, wisdom, and prosperity in Sri Lanka's main religion, Buddhism. They play an important role in religious ceremonies and processions.

The primary objective of a Sri Lankan Procession is to honor the Buddha. This traditional practice is central to Buddhist festivals and is associated with elephants carrying Buddha's relics as well as other cultural activities such as performing dances and drummers. The number of elephants and varieties of dancers are often used as a measure of the excellence and the quality of the procession.

The elephant in this picture belongs to Mahiyangana Saman Devalaya. He mainly uses Perahara activities not only Saman Devalaya but also other Devalas such as Katharagama, Kandy, Kelani, Nawagamuwa, and Sabaragamuwa. I could capture this elephant while he was relaxing at Devala ground, the day after the Perehara day.
