Cool beans

Beans bring back memories of my childhood in my grandmother Celia's house, there were always different fresh grains to prepare and eat, they were crops from the lands that Uncle José cultivated in the hills of the nearest field.

I remember one occasion that she brought a whole sack of freshly harvested beans, these were in their pod so my grandmother would take out portions, place them in a kind of concovated wooden tray that they call a pan, put on her apron and sit on a chair. Wood with cowhide she would comfortably place the pan on her lap to start shelling, that is, to remove the bean grain from the pods, I was small but old enough to help, so my grandmother sat next to her and that is how I participated at work.

It was an entertaining job with which we spent some time together and at the same time we watched television, then the grandmother prepared the beans and served for lunch with white rice, cheese, butter, slices, roasted arepa, egg and juice of one of the fruits seasonal.

Beans are a delicious food that I like to eat and prepare at home to this day, I do it the same as my grandmother and sometimes I add meat to give them another flavor, they are nutritious and one of the few cheap grains on the market.

As the days go by (they age) they acquire more flavor, eating them refried with freshly prepared arepa is a substantial breakfast. In my memory I move to my grandmother's kitchen and I see the image of her when she sat at the table she served me and together we enjoyed the food like royalty.
