Sometimes it might take a train wreck....

The cashier was especially perky, friendly and in a great serving mood. I asked her, "Why are you so perky today?"

"I always am."

"What's your secret?"

"I had a complete turn around in my life a few years ago. I used to have a very negative attitude. It went just the opposite to positive."

"I bet you have a story to tell."

"Oh yes. I sure do."

I pointed to the glittering silver diamond ring and wedding band on her finger, "Have anything to do with this?" Expecting her to say yes, I found the most wonderful man.

But she didn't. She kind of flatly and matter of factly said, "Oh, No. Not at all."

And lifted her left arm so the inside was visible. There was a huge indentation. A huge scar. I couldn't understand how she could even use that arm with so much of it missing.

"Cancer?"

"No. A serious infection."

"Wow. I guess so. Sometimes it might take something like a train wreck or a piano falling on your head to say, 'Are you listening?' "

I got chills seeing what had happened to her that turned her around. She didn't say it but I know she had an experience of a spiritual awakening. I think the infection was from a needle. She had probably been using heroin or something.

She wished me a blessed day and I wished her well also.
