RE: Independent writers
Social media has definitely something to do with it. People now think: "well, my friends are only one tap away, they're not going anywhere, they will always be there, I can be as busy as I want." It has somewhat warped our priorities. Add to this, conversations in quick messaging apps have no depth at all, just a bunch of hi's and hello's and that's it.
This is the reason why the protagonist decided to travel, he wanted real connections by going out there and actually interact with people (somewhat similar to the old you) but then upon hearing from his friend back home still no one wrote him back, he realized he still lonely. But hey, life has a funny way of helping us out, eventually he met the novelist and travelled together. In your case, you attracted different people and had more time for yourself. Thank you for sharing! Great talk.
Better is a companion in the flesh than the ones in your screen who never writes back.😄
