i'm sorry
for i wasn't as outgoing as my sister,
she could charm people—even babies
with her smile and pleasant laugh.

i'm sorry
for i wasn't as smart as my brother,
he bags all the medals and trophies
whatever topic you throw, he'd always have a say.

i'm sorry
for i wasn't as kind as my cousin,
she's willing to donate even her lunch
loved by the elders, praised every second.

i'm sorry
for i wasn't the child you're expecting,
you can't brag about my failed grades
nor my fat stomach and acne-filled face,
you're ashamed of me being an introvert
you think it's bad i'm unusual.

but i think you’re the one who should apologize
say sorry for always comparing me
for never seeing my uniqueness
and failing to discover my good qualities,
you call yourself my parent
you’re supposed to be my number one believer
but all you did was make me feel bad.
