Scientists have collected samples of the deepest rock in the world
A group of geologists from Cardiff University in the United Kingdom collected rocks from 4,160 feet below the sea level of the Atlantic Ocean. They claim that this rock found by digging the seabed is the deepest rock in the world so far. Geologists are trying to learn about the largest layer of the earth's surface through this rock test. In the meantime, various information about the rock has been published in the journal Science.

According to geologists, about 80 percent of the Earth's total volume is covered by the 'mantle' layer. The mantle is basically a layer of silicate rock, which lies between the earth's crust and the hot core. Just west of the great Mid-Atlantic Ridge is the mid-Atlantic seamount known as the Atlantis Massif, where the mantle layer is almost exposed.
As part of the International Ocean Discovery program, a dredging vessel named Joyce Resolution has been used to collect seabed rocks in the Atlantic Ocean. The mantle layer below sea level is drilled from April to June 2023. In this regard, Geologist Johan Lisenberg of Cardiff University in Wales said, 'We have found the deepest rock in the world so far.'
Andrew McCaig, a geologist at the University of Leeds in England, said, 'We had quite a bit of trouble getting the hole started. Hydrogen is released between ocean water and mantle rocks at or near the bottom. This results in the formation of compounds such as methane, which promotes microbial life. This is how life on earth is assumed to have originated. Mantle rocks in our collection will help us learn more about the evolution of life.'
