Pious Practices That Can Be Done to Welcome the Islamic New Year
Towards the celebration of the Islamic New Year 1444 H, Muslims usually have several traditions that are carried out with family.
In addition to the torch relay and the Koran together, it turns out that there are lots of practices that can be done to welcome the Islamic new year 1444 H.
Moreover, the month of Muharram is one of the four holy months in Islam.
“A year consists of twelve months, four of which are sacred months, three of which are consecutive; Zulqadah, Zulhijjah, Muharram, and the fourth is Rajab." (Narrated by Bukhari Muslim).

Here are the practices that can be done in the Islamic new year 1 Muharram 1444 H.
- It is recommended to fast
In the hadith narrated by Bukhari and Muslim, the Prophet SAW said that whoever fasts in the month of Muharram will receive a great reward from Allah SWT.
"The most important fast after Ramadan is fasting in the month of Muharram." (HR. Muslim).
- Fasting on Ashura Day
Other practices that Muslims can do in the month of Muharram is fasting on the day of Ashura, precisely on the 10th of Muharram.
But someone who wants to fast on the day of Ashura, he must fast two days: the 9th and 10th of Muharram or the 10th and 11th in order to distinguish it from the worship of the Jews.
In a number of authentic hadiths that fasting on the day of Ashura is a sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad SAW and makes a person entitled to a great reward.
Abu Qatada narrated that the Prophet SAW said:
"In my opinion, by fasting on the 10th of Muharram, Allah Ta'alaa will forgive the sins of the past year." (HR. Tirmizi).
- Give charity
Giving charity is indeed an obligation for every human being as a means to clean up their wealth.
The privilege of giving charity and someone who is more extravagant to provide for his family members on the 10th of Muharram, then Allah Ta'alaa will shower blessings on sustenance in the following year.
