What are the best places to visit in South Korea?

Well, I would say South Korea is a land of paradise! There are plenty of places for you to visit in this country. I did a small research on this country and what I like the most about South Korea is its pure and unique culture, Korean language and also the way Koreans respect others.

Tasting the extremely delicious Korean traditional and street foods, trying out a hanbok which is the Korean traditional dress and like any other girl, Kdramas and soju keeps me motivated to visit South Korea.

So, Let’s see what are the best destinations to visit in South Korea!

1:- Namsan Tower

Are you a K-drama lover? Then you might know the Namsan Tower. Namsan is a cultural landmark in South Korea and on the other hand, it’s a centre of attraction for lovers. This is also known as N Seoul Tower and viewers can get a panoramic sight of the glamorous Seoul city. This tower is located at the top of the Namsan mountain and it is used as a communication and observation centre.

Namsan Tower is extremely popular among tourists and I believe that’s mostly due to the popularity of K-drama. Many of the Korean dramas are filmed in Namsan Tower therefore, many foreigners tend to visit this place.

The scenery from the top of Namsan is eye-catching where you can get a 360-degree view of the entire city. It is a famous date spot among locals and each couple seal their love forever by putting a love lock there.

It’s not only a spot for sightseeing but also you have plenty of other things to do at Namsan.

There are many restaurants at Namsan where you can select dining options that match your budget and have your meal while getting lost amid an amazing view!

A small brief about Namsan restaurants.

If you want to grab a soft drink or some quick snack like popcorn you can go to the Sweet bar.
If you want to try Korean ramen you can check out Cheiljemyunso restaurant.
The visitors can also try American, Italian and French cuisines from N Burger, The place Dining and N Grill.
The Hancook restaurant will provide you with Korean buffet dining facilities.
For a magnificent night view, don’t miss out the opportunity of having a cocktail at the premium sky lounge N Terrace.
Namsan Park and Namsangol Hanok Village are also other attractions that you can see when visiting Namsan tower. You can reach Namsan either by cable cars or by shuttles.

  1. Gyeongbokgung palace

This world-famous castle is the biggest of Five Grand Palaces built by the Joseon dynasty and filled in as the illustrious home of the Joseon tradition. Standing splendidly today, travellers don't know that Gyeongbokgung Palace has raised an excessive number of times from the remains of devastation. Gyeongbokgung Palace is located in Seoul, Jogno district.

If you love to explore the traditional Korean culture, then it is a must to visit this royal palace. Travelling the Gyeongbokgung Palace can take at least half a day therefore, ensure you arrive at the entrance before 10 AM and also don’t forget to bring a map of the palace with you.

You can also get to see the palace guards changing ceremonies between 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and guards usually change every 1 hour. Free tour guides will be there to guide the foreign travellers as well.

The entrance fees to visit the palace would be 3000 Won per adult and 1500 Won per kid, but in case if you are wearing a hanbok i.e., the traditional Korean dress you would be allowed a free ticket.

Gyeongbokgung palace is an extremely aesthetic travel destination. The palace garden features lush greenery, islands, lotus ponds, statues and cherry blossoms in spring. This surrounding will bring back all the Kdrama scenes and you will feel that you are also playing a character in a drama or you’ve gone back to the Joseon dynasty. Sounds interesting right! But to get the maximum experience you should try wearing a hanbok. All tourists can rent a hanbok for two hours or four hours (can adjust to your timing) and enter the Gyeongbokgung palace as a Korean princess or prince.

You too can become a Korean royal princess for a day! Visit Gyeongbokgung palace and remember, to take elegant pictures of yourself.

  1. Jeju Island

Jeju Island, also known as Jejudo (제주도) is situated on South Korea’s southern coast has become a top holiday destination among locals. Mostly, Jejudo is famous among Korean honeymooners due to its charming sceneries and countless beaches.

The colourful and aesthetic environment will help in calming your body and mind and allows you to get lost in the wonders of nature. The dashing greeny borderline fields are covered with tangerine trees and palm trees. Although Jejudo’s climate is cooler than other parts of the region, its winters are swallowed up by much longer springs and autumns allowing pineapples, tangerines and dragon fruits to grow. This island also features many UNESCO world heritage sites.

If you ever get a chance to visit Jejudo, make sure you do visit all possible places in Jeju! It’s small heaven filled with mesmerising natural wonders.

  1. Bukchon Hanok Village

Have you ever noticed the traditional houses showed in historical dramas of Korea and did you ever dream of spending two/three days in such a place? Then it is a must to check out the Bukchon Hanok village!

There are hundreds of traditional homes in this village and the most important thing is Bukchon Hanok Village is located close to the Gyeongbokgung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace and Jongmyo Shrine.

Many Hanoks offer cultural centres, guesthouses, tea houses and restaurants providing visitors with an opportunity to encounter, learn and immerse themselves in traditional Korean culture. As Bukchon Hanok Village is an actual neighbourhood with people's homes, therefore, visitors are advised to be respectful at all times while looking around.

To explore the Hanok village will take 3 hours and 30 minutes approximately and this place is closed on Sundays. So make sure to visit during weekdays and Saturdays around 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and also the entrance would be free for everyone!

  1. Myeongdong

If you ever plan a trip to Seoul, Myeongdong is a must-visit place. Myeongdong streets are popular among tourists since the ’70s. Today, Myeongdong is one of the finest places in Seoul to shop, enjoy and dine all of South Korea’s foods.

This one-stop unique destination is made up of street shopping, vendors in Myeongdong sells cosmetics, handbags, accessories, fast fashion and some of the most delicious Myeongdong sit-in and street food restaurants in the world.

Korean fashion is much popular among both girls and boys of other nations and your trip to Seoul won’t be completed without experiencing street shopping!

You can try out all branded goodies plus authentic Korean style fashion in these streets.

There are plenty of delicacies for you to try in Myeongdong. For example, there is a dessert cafe that is extremely popular among tourists who love Korean sweets. Don’t forget to stop by Myeongdong ‘Noo Na Hol Dak’ to try dazzling Korean crispy fried chicken if you’re a non-veg person.

You will definitely enjoy the picturesque streets and colourful building lights as you pass by and don’t forget to buy some Korean souvenirs to bring back home as a memory of South Korea!
