Showcase Sunday: Hidden in the Red Forest
This is a piece from a while back where I was experimenting with combining my 3D and 2D skillsets to be able to create illustrations. I haven't had time lately to apply this much, but since I did this I've learned a lot more about 3D. These days I'm trying to figure out more about building natural looking 3D photoreal animations. Still need more help with the compositing and matte painting. It's hard to find really solid info about that online.
Anyway I made some cool process shots of this while making it.
This gif shows the different render passes that I rendered out of Cinema 4D. I take all these images and composite them together again first in After Effects, then I do final adjustments and hand painting in Photoshop.
This gif shows how things are layered to create the final image.
This is what the image looked like coming out of After Effects to be brought into Photoshop to paint the figure and do final touch ups.
This guy was small in the composition so I scaled the painting up and painted him pretty loosely, then scaled him down so the detail would be implied.
I hope STEEM goes to the Moon one day, so I can just sit at home and make cool stuff without worrying about how I'm going to eat. That would be cool. *dreams
Anyway, hope you all like my trip down memory lane. I love Sundays now.
Pretty sweet...it reminds me a bit like Destiny, or Mass Effect :-)
Thanks @zacknorman97, definitely the type of material I look to for inspiration.
Check Discord when you get a moment, @midlet. I was a few days late to your message but I just got it.
Will do.
Well, love the art... very evocative!
Yes, it would be nice to someday be able to just live the creative life and have it be enough to make a living! Until then, I guess we just have to grab whatever moments we can find...
