In my time on steem it I have learned that it's a form of staked cryptocurrency that users hold in their accounts to increase the weight of their votes and earn curation rewards. When users "power up" with their Steem tokens, they convert them into Steem Power, which enhances their influence on the platform and allows them to earn a portion of the rewards from posts they upvote.

Great you stopped by and you explained very well what SP is. For sure it's helpful for the newcomers and those wondering how or what SP is good for (or where it comes from).
I like to add that next to the rewards you see the other 50% is already changed in SP. So if you claim the reward you also claim the 50% of SP (setting 100% powerup (= SP) for posts and/or comments is possible as well.

When I first came to Steemit, I was confused about a lot of things but the most confusing thing was how the currencies in Steemit work. There's Steem, Steem Power(SP) and Steem Dollars (SBD). The most confusing was the SP. I wondered what Steem Power does and what importance it has.
It took some time for me to understand that it's a measure of a user's influence on the platform. Users with more SP have influence on the disposition of rewards on posts.
I'm still new to the platform and have a lot to learn. What do you think about SP? @henryclive @deelyt @imohmitch

SP is powered up Steem. If you didn't change your setting your rewards are set 50/50. 50% will be directly powered up and the othee 50?

The more SP the higher your level and the higher the vote you give will be (see https://www.steemworld.org).
You can delegate SP to someone else or receive it. If you receive a delegation it isn't yours, it can be taken away and only hwlps to give higher upvotes temporary.

By "the higher level" you mean like a rank? Is that the number beside the hashtag(#) that can be seen in our profile?
What does having a higher level indicate? Other than having more SP...
It's the number behind your name. So 71 with me. The higher you are the longer it takes to level up (unless you earn a load of Steem. You won't "look good" if you help the small fish and don't grow yourself, the amount of posts doesn't matter if you are not rewarded.
Fame indeed is the answer but it's possible to gain that in a different way.
Ah, you were talking about reputation. I see. Okay, thanks for the clarifications. One last thing, aside from downvotes, does powering down also decreases your level?
That's a good question and I had to look around a bit but it looks like if a power-down doesn't affect the level. I don't see some famous Steemians drop drastically after they powered down.
I can give you some examples but I think you can find them as well since we all can see one another.
I was hacked and nearly empty, I didn't check my level but I doubt it changed. Perhaps it's why I grow so slow?
It is weird if you think about it, perhaps there's a very small chance they grow slower to the next level after a powerdown?
But who cares if you are 80 already?
@steemchiller do you have the answer to this burning question? Is once high always high or it it possible to get back at 25 if the safe is emptied?
Is there a high risk of getting hacked if I take a break from Steemit? I've read comments about people losing all their Steem after returning from a break...
I find it hard to tell. As I returned after my last break it was all there.
I was hacked while there and I still had the habit to only check my wallet once per month so I was kind of too late.
A fact is that many accounts have been hacked this year (around July) or even twice and most accounts were abandoned (not sure for how long). A part wasn't and as far as I know most from the same country.
A friend just returned after 3 years... I don't think her account been hacked. Let's ask

Fame, more power, manyof them have a bigger voice if... and the high level stands for the commitment to to Steemit.

Did you share your opinion out SP the Steem Power? What do you think? Is it okay to give SP for a prize? You can't do anything with it, not sell it, not change for Steem and it is not said you will receive it. Such a pity you didn't take the time to share your knowledge about SP and ask questions if there are any. Did you ever receive SP as a prize? Do you know it's a delegation and you can't sell it, change it for Steem but also that it can be taken away and you most likely will not notice it?
May I ask you if you are fine if I set SP for a prize to save myself the trouble and the Steem so to say? Any thoughts about this?
