Travel a long distance with me
What did you hear about your first long distance journey? What was your first route of transportation in your first long distance journey?
Stay put dear Steemians, I'll tell you guys about my very first long distance journey.
I think mine was a mix of anxiety, fear and excitement and a little bit of frustrating situations along the road. You know that excitement you feel because you're soon relocating to a new environment, new faces, new cultures, new personalities and lots more.
I also had fears of what lies ahead, venturing into the unknown future and exploring the imagined future of a young career woman.
Back to my journey guys!!! I'm moving to a different state in my country which is the capital (FCT - Abuja) from akwa ibom State. Someone is already itching to know the reason for my relocation. I'm moving for a program known as NYSC (National youth service corp). In my next post, I'll write in more detail.
From my state to Abuja on land will take about 10 to 11 hours, that was too much time to spend on the road. Traveling by land using the road cost #31000 equivalent 120 steem.
However I saw a lot of disadvantages using the means, I will spend long hours on the road, problems of insecurity in my country, kidnappings along the road and many more. The inconveniences and uncomfortability of using the road is second to none. I saw the need to use either air or sea.
I need to make a stop in two locations, I'll leave my state and get to another state (Cross River) then I'll board a flight to Abuja from there.
The sea port to Calabar, cross river was a good option. So very early in the morning I arrived the seaport in Akwa Ibom State. This fary was to take me 45 minutes to get to my destination, the idea sounded nice to me. The sum to be paid for the sea journey was #10000 estimated to be 38 steem. On arrival unfortunately the seats were previously booked and there was no space left me me, my flight was already scheduled so I needed to immediately go by land so I'll meet my flight later that day.
I hurried to a nearby motor park where I boarded a bus going to calabar.
Bus to calabar from uyo
I got to calabar, cross river state not too long from when I traveled. I called a relative who will assist and pick me up at the airport where I'll board a plane.
I still had hours to my flight time so my relative decided to give me a good treat. She took me around Marian market and then to her house where she served me delicious melon soup. I took some pictures around the house, we talked and had good conversations.
It was time to head to the airport so I'll move to Abuja. We were on our way to the airport, it was a smooth journey, we got to the airport quite on time.
I was at the check in point, at this point, bags are weighed and unfortunately, I paid #12000 for extra logage.
After the check in, a boarding pass was issued to me after which I proceeded to the waiting area
In no time, our flight time was up and passengers were asked to board the plane and I proceeded the same.
The flight was indeed a safe one, I landed Abuja in about 55mins.
I then boarded a taxi to my sister's place at Abuja since I was too tired to proceed to the camp.
Well it's been a really hectic journey and in was super exhausted and tired i just needed to lay my head and rest.
In the next post, I'll talk about my first day at the nysc orientation camp
I wish you a good stay for the 1 year! Abuja is a good place for NYSC apart from the high cost of living. However, I learnt there are some good opportunities there.
I wish you all the best.
Kopa weee!!! 😀
I hope to explore all the available opportunities. However cost of living like you said is pretty high. Foodstuffs and transportation is on the high side.
I'll manage just fine. Thanks for reaching out
Yeah, 10-11 hours on the road can be exhausting. but you can still enjoy the view I guess. Anyway, I guess your next part of the journey works fine!!
