Living a Better Life: Beyond Money

Let’s be honest, what’s the first thing that jumps to your mind when you hear “living a better life”? A lot of us think of “money.” No doubt, money is a game changer, but it takes more than a fat bank account to live the best life.

Come to think of it, you don’t expect an obese person to start thinking of fancy cars or going on an expensive vacation (although those can be fun too!). What such a person will see as a better life is living healthily rather than just financial wealth.

But if we are real with ourselves, the majority will likely pick “finances” because it is the only thing that creates the atmosphere for a better life. Everything else, whether it’s health, love, or even personal growth, all have their foundations rooted in money!

In fact, a typical Nigerian lady who has been heartbroken a thousand times and has been looking for love will never settle for a broke man even if he can die for her. You will hear questions like “Is it love that will pay our bills?” So, you can see the role of money as a foundation in relationships or love.

A lot of ladies would rather cry in a Lamborghini than be happy in a tricycle. A typical example is the recent buzz in Nigeria about billionaire musician Davido, who just got married to his longtime gorgeous girlfriend, Chioma. Despite Davido's well-known history of infidelity, Chioma stuck by him. Why? He’s a billionaire. He can provide the baby girl lifestyle she wants.

But hold on a second, an average man can’t try this and get away with it in Nigeria. The ladies will roast you like pork meat. If you think I’m lying, ask “Mr. Yul Edochie.” That is why it’s important to make enough money because when money talks, bullshit walks away, paving the way for you to live a better life.

Hmmm… Judging from my write-up, do you still need an angel to tell you what I need to improve my life? It is very obvious that I’m part of the majority that wants money to make me feel like a king! I want to build my own castle. The poor don’t have a voice in the world.

Society has now made us understand that the law is meant for just the weak and poor ones! Once I become rich and famous, I am above the law. In fact, I’m the law. A poor man will steal 100,000; he will be mobbed and sentenced to death. But a rich man will steal billions of dollars and will be celebrated. That’s the kind of society we find ourselves in—double standard people.

The Bible has a reason for saying,

“money answers all things”.

That’s why I know that with money, the better life I’ve always craved will be fulfilled. Probably, the castle I intend to build will be in the sky because the land will be too small for me then. I want to be close to Jesus, having a gist with him all the time.

Being rich and famous can give you a glamorous lifestyle, but it doesn’t guarantee the only way to a better life.

I know you might be wondering what a ”better life” actually looks like.

It’s different for everyone, and that’s what makes life beautiful.

• For some people, their idea of a better life will be eating healthily, sleeping well, and maybe hitting the gym.

• Another set of people might feel having a good relationship, nurturing connections, spending quality time with their loved ones, and building a supportive network could be their way of living a better life.

• Some people's idea of a better life could be chasing their dreams, whether it’s writing, music, becoming an astronaut, or doing what gives them joy!

The bottom line is just doing what makes you happy and fulfilled.

The best time to start living that better life is now.
