Why are things always missing?

I cannot understand it, you do the washing and you put 2 socks in the wash, yet there are always one missing.

You want to cut your nails but cannot find the nail clipper. The day you don’t want to clip your nails is the day you will see the nail clipper.

Keys! My husband is forever looking for his car keys not to mention his sunglasses.

No wonder the experts say that “black holes are the ultimate no man’s land”. There are definitely a few of our items stuck in a black hole.

I once placed my earrings on the bedside table when I went to bed that night. I woke up the next morning and the one earring was missing. Gone!

We searched everywhere, turned the bed upside down, empty the drawers but, the earring was not to be found. I eventually had the grandchildren crawling on their knees as I offered a reward for the one who found it.

It was my hope that the day we move the earring will miraculously reappear. Guess what? It didn’t.

What blows my mind is that so often it is not the small things that goes missing but the big. Those which you should easily see with your eyes. Even better, often those things which are right under our noses.

My father in law had us all searching for his glasses the other day. It was only after an hour of searching that he discovered the glasses was on his head.

We all missed it!

What I found funny is that when we are looking for something we start searching at the weirdest places, in the fridge, the oven and even behind the toilet.

Can items just disappear? No they cannot.
Well, that is according to me.

I blame the disappearing of “things” mainly on three things.

1. Absentminded
2. Overlooking and
3. Green gremlins

The scientist calls it “DOP” (disappearing object phenomenon ).
In the book “Disappearing Object Phenomenon: An Investigation” the author Tony Jinks reviews that from a scientific view DOP is the nature of reality.

In other words, make peace with the fact that things will disappear and reappear.

J – Just
O – One
O – Of
T – Those
T – Things

Then you get those who believe that there are a spiritual reason for DOP. That things are moved with energy. Your energy because you feel restless or the conflict energy with someone else.

Luckily these days we are blessed with technology which helps us to find things. Almost like the well-known Accio charm we find when reading Harry Potter books.
One thing I am extremely glad of is iPhone’s invention of “Find my iPhone”.

Bottom line…

Put things in their place. Not only will it makes your life so much easier but it will stop you from looking for them in white holes next!

Hahaha! Great post.

My father l into had us all searching for his glasses the other day. It was only after an hour of searching that he discovered the glasses was on his head.

Do you know that this happens to me most of the time? And my glasses are always on my face even when I turn the house upside down searching for it. These days when I ask, “please has anyone seen my glasses?” my sister will scream from the adjoining room, “check your face”. And yes, I'll find it there. Don't still understand why I chose to grow old in my 20s. Lol.

Then you get those who believe that there are a spiritual reason for DOP

I was about to mention this but thank God you did. Imagine sun-drying undies only to return to see that they had somehow developed wings. Those are my most dreadful moments when I travel or I'm at the hostel. I know people who attribute this to evil spirits hovering around. They believe that a witch is using it for an evil purpose.

If they ever get to find it, they'll burn it immediately. Burn cute-looking undies not even for fear of getting an infection but because of spirits in a coven. Nsuto mkpo!😅🤣

Maybe the disappearance is caused by the Green Gremlins. I never knew that you watch animations. I have not seen the movie yet but I will do so once I can.

You made me smile this morning.

Oh gosh! And you passed those smile onto me!
In fact, it is your fault that I am sitting with a wet screen.
I burst out laughing when I got to the undies story...
I loved it!
You are so refreshing! Never ever change!

Muy cierto 😳multiuniverso, las cosas desaparecen y aparecen😊✨

Indeed! Best of all, they often disappear when you need them most of all.
Will we ever understand the beautiful world we live in?
I don't think so. (•ิ‿•ิ)
Thank you for stopping by!

I'm sorry, but you made me smile, that's typical of a distracted person or one who is simply under strong stress and it happens to me sometimes, that's why I say it, many occupations, problems, your mind becomes a whirlwind.

Ah ha! There is actually a point 4, stress as you have highlighted it (•ิ‿•ิ)
Is it Murphy's Law that when we are most stress things juts goes missing? Life, never boring.
Ps: Thanks for the visit!

Ha-ha, very nice! Thanks!

No, definitely no! I never lost any of my socks. My personal explanation to this: I prove the socks to go paired into the washing machine. While emptying the machine, I hang them paired. If there is one missing, I can be sure to find it within the machine (easily to be not seen on a dark place as I weare black socks or dark blue ones). And so I find it. Or I find it to be fallen while taking some other clothing out of the machine. But in the end (and - important to know - within two minutes or less) my socks hang paired for drying. No escapism!
;-)

For glasses: a friend of mine experienced something like your father in law, and while looking for his glasses, he nowadays first puts one hand before his eyes: "Am I wearing my glasses??" You might imagine how I laughed...
;-))

Well you got me laughing!
I must try your way, pair the socks before they go in. I might just be able to find the culprit. The one who put the socks or sock into the washing basket in the first place. (•ิ‿•ิ)

Wishing you an awesome week!!

And now the song remains:

Check the socks,
Yeah the socks
Before you drop them
To the machine
Find the sock
Yeah the sock
Which comes so lonely
To the washing
Call the one
Yeah the one
Who left who left it
To your hands
To the washing
To the machine

We keep looking for many things that are not available at hand. This happens in a normal person and it happens when we are under a lot of stress. It happens to me sometimes, again it happens to every human being but it takes no time to find out if it is handy. Very nice post shared.

You made my day! I am normal!!! (•ิ‿•ิ)
It makes me feel good that it happens to many of us.
Thanks for the visit and engagement my friend!
It is appreciated! ☕

You have said it all. Things get missing easily and reappears when we don't need them. I can stop laughing about the glasses of your father in-law that was found on his head after you spent hours looking for it. It's just funny but they happen often.

Thanks for the advice it will really help if we keep things at their proper places

Best of all, the older we get the more it happens (•ิ‿•ิ)
I am just so glad that I am not the only one to who it is happening.
The enjoyable moments of our lives!
Thanks for the visit my friend 🎕

I am very entertained reading your post this time, because I am also in your position like that, when I want to cut my nails sometimes I forget, and the next day I just remembered why I didn't cut my nails yesterday. and also I often lose a pair of socks when washed, when I dry it, I only have one,,LoL.

Goody! Another normal person in the world! (•ิ‿•ิ)
I was starting to wonder if I was the only having things disappearing.
I thing there must be million of socks in the "black hole".
Thank you for the visit!
